5 reasons to sell your tube amp............................

Having said that, I am currently enjoying the used ZOOM G3Xn that I picked up! :D
It is from 2016 but still supported so far!
How do you like the modellers? I fiddled with them but no serious consideration for me. Although would be an easy backup amp as I always have the G3 or G3n

ALso for the record I have 2 tube amps I love my tube amps
I actually really have a 10 watt and under tube amp "fetish" of sorts TBTH .... so while I have owned and flipped MANY I have 2 currently I like (and 1 hybrid) so in posting this thread I am not abdicating TAKING away tube amps (unless you want to GIVE THEM TO ME ;) ;) .... the video made points both pro and con ... and the video poster owned both -- its really great to OWN both and enjoy ALL .... same with guitars ---
I owned only 1 for years and NONE for about 8 years (the horror) wife career kids -- no time no money (mostly no time) now, Id have a hard time cutting it down to 10 ...............
again the horror....................

The only reason I'd part with my tube amps is if it were impossible to get tubes anymore.

I have heard very impressive modelers and SS lately. Cool.

The only problem I have with digital is the same as others have mentioned - I feel like it is a disposable product, support runs out, no one will fix it, and then the new products claim to be even better.

I heard BOSS is already designing "The One After That" to replace the Nextone. (I know the BOSS amps are SS, but that's just bad marketing)

Example of good marketing :

All I have to say is

works for me.

yep-- your probably right............... but
there are literally 100's of FREE (thousands of pay to play models) of digital on line amp sims (got a computer? will you always have one? Will it always function for the most part on the most recent software? As will the free (FREE MIND YOU) amp sims........
also tube amp sims online (free) never need tubes... or chokes-- or repairs... or speakers replaced ....ever

A Marshall 100 watt JVM is 3 grand -- how many decades of amp sim upgrades can I download for free before I spend 3 grand (?)

I can get FREE--and or buy a WHOLE LOT of tones literally almost every modeled tone ever created to this point and not spend anywhere near 3 grand -- which locks me in to 1 "branded" tone. IF you love that tone and only want that tone you are fortunate and can enjoy that tone till the world (or tubes) end. I like the variety that modeling/processing/sims provide.

Personally--- I would find only having 1, $3000.00 Marshall would BORE THE LIVING HELL out of me in about 30 days

per the software/support complaint--quick example --- the fender mustang online support was dumped by Fender last year (?) after over a decade -- however (thanks @WavMixer ) if you SAVED the software suite to run that aspect of the amp -- you still can-- and if you didnt the physical amp itself still works .....works rather well... and you can get a 100 watt one of them for around 200.00 plus all the pedals and amp models within ....... you do not have to have the online "suite" to use the amp the online link is just icing on the cake.
if support runs out after 12-15 years (?) -- well o.k. -- it was a 90.00 amp 12 years ago .... guess its time to plunk down another 90.00 for 15 more years use of the newest tech ;) Hell 12 year run (and amp still works) anyone using a 12 year old cell phone ????

For me any way:
Not really buying gear to "last a lifetime" or for my great grandchildren to inherit --- buying the crap that makes me smile NOW -- or getting it for FREE.

I don't have a problem with that. My Boss cost less than the average trip to the amp doctor with my Fender valve amp. If it pops, which my 15 year old Roland Micro-Cube is showing no signs of doing, I buy a new better model.

I can use headphones at night, record direct or play a gig. All with one cheap, disposable and easily replaceable box.

No problem here from a Peavey bandit 112 Silverstripe--circa 1995 ish ?? 27 years old...cost me 50.00
thats one hell of a $ to reliability factor there..... o.k its not a "modeling" amp ... but it can sound fender-ish and marshall ish and damn sure owns PEAVEY ISH tones
it chugs

Well I have had a tube amp, it was good , but found out after using it couldn't get the tones I was looking for, just ended up getting them from an SS amp my Orange 35RT Crush. Also it came with headphone jack and aux out put to run my MP3 player, which were a must for me. And even a tuner onboard. Also came with spring reverb and separate dirty , clean switch another added bonus. All these added features for $200 less than my tube amp. Not knocking tube amps , just saying for me it was the right move.

Here’s another observation, which probably serves little more than to consume a few more kilobytes on a server someplace…but here goes…!

Although I choose to remain blissfully schizophrenic when it comes to this whole topic, as I will happily use any of these technologies, there is a certain irritation I have with the whole processor/modeler thing - and it has nothing to do with how they sound.

The thing that puts fur on my eyeballs is the seeming planned obsolescence and marketing thing. A unit will come out and the marketing hype will be, “We’ve got all these great amp models!” Then, the next unit will come out a few years later and the marketing hype will be, “These amp models are even better!” Of course, there will be the same thing with the next model, “This time we really mean it. These amp models are the best!”

Of course, if you (as in ME!) are the poor sap who bought the earlier model, you’re stuck with a unit that has very low resale value, has no more software/firmware updates, and is likely not even supported by the manufacturer - meaning they won’t fix it even if you offer to pay them - and there are no third-party techs who will fix it either. What makes it even more infuriating is that even if you’re willing to buy the newer model, the patches you spent hours building with the older model may not be uploadable to the newer model. I know this to be true from personal experience.

Now, I realize each manufacturer does things a little differently, so not every issue I described may be true for every one of them, but they are a very real risk. You need to do some real research on whatever you want to buy - both the product and the company.

Again, this is not a commentary on how they sound. And, while I have highlighted some issues, this is not meant to argue against the idea of buying and using processors. But, it does help explain some of the appeal of tube amps. There is a certain timelessness to them.

I totally concur with SMITTY. I had an issue with my cell phone I got in 2017 and the middle eastern sounding man on the help desk basically told me my issue is likely due to limited Ram built in to the phone, plus new updates to software and me being 2g not 5g etc etc, so I should consider buying a new phone I am eligible for that might cost $159...

I told him, but I like my phone. AND funds are limited AND I don't just buy stuff until I have either broken, destroyed, lost or essentially gotten 30-40 years of use out of something if possible.

This brought us to the point where, I knew the answer to my issue ( GPS Google Maps, Waze, etc being almost useless) because almost every time I try to be guided somewhere, when I get to the point of being at the mercy of GPS, it says NO GPS detected, No Satellite available or some version of this.
His answer was cell phones use a lot of battery, a lot of memory of which I barely have any Ram left from all the pre loaded ones I am afraid to delete, or that Updates ( modern ones to the apps) eat up more and more memory with the added sophistication of the " current" engineered improvements over OLD school original versions of the APPs etc so my phone is not long before it is obsolete.

AND YES this is why I like my 1977, 1983, 1988, 1991 cars, trucks, . If I had the cash, I would only be driving 1950's through 1988 vehicles and having as many as possible NON computer aided/hindered vehicles as possible. I can actually fix things without my blood pressure soaring or my wallet draining faster than I can possibly earn if I stick to driving old beaters.

You guys should see the POS design of a Fuse box on a 2017 Toyota 4 Runner my mom's dementia and trust of a woman she knew who took advantage of her so that we got stuck with an expensive car when she defaulted on the loan payments. This particular 140 A fuse CAN"T be a SIMPLE wiggle and lift removal like ALL OTHER DANG fuses are, it has to be FRIGGEN BOLTED from UNDER THE FUSE BLOCK> UGGGGH

CHECK THIS BS OUT and How one needs to be an Octopus to separate things just to get at the bolts. Sorry for the terrible music along with this clip.
