5 Myths about learning guitar

My take away's from this video:

1 - acoustics are more like chicks
2 - hmm, I generally practice unplugged, so I'm Chapper approved
3 - buy something you like and you can afford and will actually play
4 - strings, play what ever works and feels good to you
5 - There are people who play great learning by ear and people who play great that are college/classically trained and people who play great somewhere in between - pretty learn how ever much you want/need to learn to do what you want to do...

Summed up, it's music. Don't take it too serious, have fun, do what you want, play for those who like what you choose/chose to do and don't worry about ;)

It's a heck of a lot better now. In the 70s: Mel Bay, Book 1... individual notes leading up to... "Over the meadow and down the lane". I quit when I was 8 (1973). I wanted to play something else. I bought a electric when I was 13 (1978), took a lesson and learned 5 chords. What a difference.

Now: wanna learn a song, wanna learn theory...youtube kills it.

I just picked up (most) of Black Sabbath N.I.B. bass line -- and except for the end bit where Geezer goes GONZO -- Ive go it---took 30 minutes-----and I could now hold my onw on "jam night" with this one----- but its only bass............thats easy ----right ;)

I remember the days of sitting down with a swinging metronome and books. Makes for good practice and learning.

I followed a similar path---Mel Bay-- as I recall GREEN SLEEVES was the first order of business..........hated it----

dropped out after like 6 "lessons" -- mostly me arguing with the teacher---- then went to GaTussos Music in Canton Ohio --- got some long hair Robin Crosby look alike overly tattooed "instructor" --- who for 25.00 -- would spend 30 min. teaching me 1 or two SONGS I WANTED TO LEARN.....and the rest is history---

I still cant play green sleeves or read sheet music or understand theory-----
but I can still play EVERY DAMN SONG my 25.00 lessons bought me --- Walk this Way-- Round and Round-- Sweet Emotion-- Walkin the Dog-- Rocck N Roll (minus the solo ) back in black........et all.......... yep -- damn well spent pizza delivery $$$

Right! WRONG! :)

I have that album. And three others of their early stuff. And I’m so old. I bought them When they were new.

Pretty much everything is easier now with YouTube, lick library, free sheet music everywhere... even buying a guitar is easier and cheaper now.

The Darwin factor now ain’t about talent or skill anymore, it’s all about taste. In a world in which any teenager can be a killer player, it’s your style that makes you cut through the masses

Didn’t purchase mine in order. Started with Paranoid. Followed by Black Sabbath and Master of Reality. I have to look see if my 4th one was Volume 4 or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. So yeah. Ruined. Me too. But in a good way.
