2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's Gold Top:

No joke. I happen to love them, but the venues pay us very well too....I enjoy what I do and I enjoy performing songs I grew up listening to.
Haha…again, to each their own. You and I are the same age but I went out of my way to avoid those bands (and their genre of music) contemporaneously. Just never appealed to me. But…I was a Metal snob at the time, which may explain but not excuse my mindset. My wife loves them both though!

I love metal. Truly!!! But I was one of those who made a living playing music, so I played was popular and many times, it wasn't always my favorites...

OK, I whipped it out.

Neck pickup bass side is 6.35mm from the low E string
Neck pickup treble side is 5.75mm from the high E string

Bridge pickup bass side is 4mm from the low E string
Bridge pickup treble side is 4mm from the high E string

To contrast, last I checked Gibson recommends 1.6 mm for the bridge pickup and 2.4 mm for the neck so these ended up significantly lower than that/where they were set from the factory.
Ok,

I staggered the magnets, as I have always done and that balanced the string to string volume on the VU meter.

My bridge pickup was 4/46" fretted at the 22nd. I moved to to 10/64"

My neck was 8/64" and I moved it to 4/64"

Wow, what a difference! Much more open and articulate.

This BB is really bright in the bridge when played clean....

Looks like the new LP has found a home in ALABAMA West coast Style @ RobertHerndon house.

From my side by side comparisons, I hear a fuller palette of sonic fullness in the range of notes between the 2 recordings of the '21 LP vs the Replica in Sweet home.
The Replica seems to record as all one level and lesser note ringingness vs a rounder and bolder completeness of all the notes as I hear it within Rob's chords when played on the '21 LP. Anyone else hear this?
Yea and it didn’t take long, it’s the same difference’s. I hear between my LP’s and Epiphone..
So Robert you bought it !!
Congratulations

Mitch I wonder how you would like testing and hearing differences in my EPI with T Tops and my Other GIB pup equipped guitars.

ES 135 with 57's, White SG Std with Tarbacks, SG Faded Walnut with 490's, and of course the Black 3 knob with Bill Lawrence Circuitboard pups.

And of course Smitty's Washburn ES copy with Duncan pups

I would love to, as I can only comment on my own tests, heard the same thing in a GC a few months ago, me and another guy were playing a pair of $600 Epiphone LP’s and he asked me what the actual difference was besides the $$$ on the gibsons what do you hear differently.
And I told him the same thing we heard. Not knocking the Epi, it’s just how I hear them..

I have not changed any of the pickups in any of my Gibsons yet. But I do want to experiment !
Faded SG maybe first .
Cheers

Mitch, I've only ever changed pickups in one or 2 guitars and did so, not for some magic formula or seeking tones of my idols, or to be cooler than rocking an Epi with Epi pups vs Gib/Dimarzio/Duncan etc. The decision to swap in my Epi LP was not because the OEM Epi's sucked,. which they do not. BUT I did so, as a cheap enough means to re acquire the sounds of my original 79 Les Paul. I put some '79 T Tops in and flat out loved the sound. That guitar started as a 2010 LP Std for a cost of approximately $359-$379 back in 2012 I think I got it. With another $430 into it with PUPS and a Bone Nut and Setup, I definitely could have spent $6-700 for a newer stock Epi with USA pups, or a USED LP at a bargain price like the Tribute I looked at for around $875 if memory serves. BUT I went the route I did and got a great player. Still it is not my '79 but then again, it will cost me likely $3-$5 k to find another like the Original I foolishly parted with and will likely never see again unless a miracle happens.
