10 worst Amps

I always feel bad about this bloke. His videos are like he just began streaming last week. Some of them have some cool info, but I've struggled to follow him.

But he has more balls than I do. I'd have a hard time putting up a video. So there's that. :D

edit: I forgot that was 4 years ago. I wonder how his list would change now.

I agree with him on the Blackstar ID Core series, I know when I played them not impressed. Blackstar does make some good amps though, like he said the HT series. I really like my Fly 3 a great little practice amp better than any other competition out there in its class.

I am looking at something to replace my Vox Rhythm 5, and liking what I see with the Blackstar Debut 15E which has very good reviews..

W in T honest to goodness F!!!!!????!!!!???!!!
wow…..I want my time back…..lots of the word “suck” being used…
AOR?…..he couldn’t figure out how to use the EQ? So it sucks?!?….
Guess so….so…send them to me for “disposal” please.
The experiences that I’ve had with Kustom Tuck and Roll models…I have a 68, and a 73….both function ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..pretty frikken well. Since cleaning them up, changing out the two prong for a three prong power cable, and ditching the death cap, they’ve been pretty darned good amps! Especially for bass! The cabs? They yielded a nice pair of JBL D130F speakers that I’m thinking of selling, now running a pair of Weber 15 inch bass speakers shakes your pants, and the 73 4x12? Well I just did a thread on that one…well built…the 49 year old speakers had dry rotted their surrounds….replaced them, and that cab will knock your socks off now! Funny thing is…my favorite amp for it so far?….89 Laney AOR50……HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
Wow…..
That was…next level….Suck.

According to this guy, what you think..

#1 worst amp of all time is:
Seymour Duncan Convertible
Nobody can top that.

#2 worst amp of all time is:
Fender Zodiac Series
This is when Fender decided to stop making tube amps.

#3 worst amp of all time:
Ampeg Solid State (real Ampeg USA ) (not crate peg, not Yampeg)
This is when Ampeg decided to stop making tube amps.
I dare you to find 1 single surviving working unit. :pound-hand:

#4 worst amp of all time:
Polytone (original USA made in a garage)
Better get fire extinguisher. (don't worry they all blew up by now, it's safe)

Hmmmm....

Well, i always tend to avoid any kind of video like this. They all seem bent on touting a particular brand or model and im against that mindset, especially with such a subjective topic.

Blackstar ID-Core 100watt - Fantastic for teaching in a small lab environment, or for Direct-Out recording. Doesn't set well in a live mix though, IMHO.

Beyond that, for live work, I've found nothing better - overall - than the @syscokid modded Marshall Origin 50H through a pair of 250 watt Celestion Copperback 250's.

It has unreal power/projectability, tone and flexibility, and it produces more gain - without a pedal - than ANY other amp I've compared it to WITH a pedal.

I'd never run a box-stock amp, except when i had limited time or space and needed something on a "be here in an hour, Rob" basis.

My experience with amps. Best or worst… no opinion. For me. Best amp is a 20w Traynor YGM3. Why best you ask. Only one I’ve ever had and/or played on. Add in the 5w Fender Vibro Champ that came with my bride when we got married.

I don't have the time to spare to watch this, especially after seeing some of the comments in this thread.

But, I will echo Robert, the Blackstar ID:Core amps do have their niche. They're very, very versatile - but maybe a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of thing.

And, the Crate G10, 1990s era Marshall practice amps and the Line 6 Spider series are all dramatically worse than the Blackstars.

That being said, I'd buy a Boss Katana - twice - over another Blackstar... and I have done just that. The Boss Katana 50 is the greatest practice amp ever made, IMO. Not sure how it, or one of the larger Katanas would work for me in a stage environment, but I have a buddy that's used a Katana 100 for years and he gets stunning tones with it.

So, despite all my really great stage gear, I've often been called in as a replacement with nothing more than driving time to the event, and with the limited space of my wife's Honda.

When that happens, i just take the 1999 Marshall MG50RCD

Two performances where i used the 1999 Marshall MG50RCD as an emergency "go-to" amp...

Good amp, lightweight, good reverb, versatile and dependable....You can see the MG50RCD just under my right elbow.

I'm not racist I hate anything PCB or solid state from a repair view it takes more time to repair than it's worth
I have repaired thousands of different amps most are crap first look at the blue book price
Only get one or two good sounding amps per year on my bench 9 times out of 10 it's a Fender Black Face Deluxe
Now in my past would travel around the world servicing private amp collections some of the amps sound so good they would
blow your mind Angles Breath is one of them rents out for $8,000.00 per day not for sale at any price.
some day will build a form of that amp if I can find a set of GEC tubes. OH well so much for my rant.
