...I'm a regular Dr. Seuss!

Found this old Facebook post of mine from 2012:
I remember.....driving my all-steel pedal car along the sidewalk in Torrance, California, in the 1960's, as a child and not being afraid of getting kidnapped....setting the garbage can on fire one morning playing with the stove - and telling the truth about it....visiting Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Davis - then in their 80's - and how genuine and kind they were....learning to ride a bicycle for the first time....my first dog being hit by a car....riding a motorcycle for the very first time....learning to drive....buying gas for 89 cents a gallon...going to the movie theatre for $1.50...and I have watched as the world has changed who we are....I have watched simplicity die away and yield to complexity...I have watched as compassion turned to neglect....and how we have become disconnected from people....I remember an age, not too very long ago when there were no cell phones....I remember walking 10 miles one summer day to use the phone at a ranch house near Ducor, California when my car broke down....I remember reading books and encyclopedias, because there was no Internet...I remember writing letters to friends and addressing them to myself from them, so the post office would return them to sender because stamps were expensive....I remember picking grapes in the summertime near Terra Bella, California for 13 cents a box.....working in a nearby packing house for $3.35/hour...and cashing a $150.00 paycheck for a week's work with overtime....but, what I remember most was how the generations who have passed stood out in my mind...how sincere and kind they were....and how they took the time to talk to you, or write you a letter....and how the story that they shared could be read in their eyes...and today, we send a few quick texts....an emotionless communique, and this is how we express love, sadness, happiness and every other emotion. When have you hugged someone you love???? Or written them a letter in pen???? When did the pursuit of money and getting ahead replace the importance of people???? It seems as though what I remember most is how we should yet again become......

I feel you brother...I remember all that and more. It's one of the reasons I bought my grandmas farm.
We were talking just yesterday about going through the old photos when I come home. I want to hear as many stories as I can before she passes on...
I also want my grandkids to experience the outdoors, running through the woods, camping out, skipping rocks at the lake, things that require no
internet or electricity for that matter. We already bought some binoculars and books on bird identification. I'm going to teach them what they
can eat out there in the wild...
I was born in 1960 and spent a lot of time on the farm...it was a huge adventure everyday!
Sorry to hear that Robert. My condolences. My Mom's brother died suddenly yesterday...very sad to see the older generations passing...
