Rob's Brand New Used 2016 Gibson Les Paul 50's Tribute Project:

Definitely looked good on the guitar in the link. Are you thinking of doing it yourself or having it done for you? I agree on the chrome tuners. Cheers

I was thinking go ALL BLACK

Faber infuriates me because they don't do chrome plating on their stuff. Only nickel and gold. Like the freakin' 1950's. Ugh, I'm so over it with all this vintage backward-looking BS, It's not like they had locking bridges and tailpieces back then, so Faber are not some uptight "vintage-correct" outfit to begin with, so why limit the options to finishes that wear off/look crappy within months?

Sorry for the rant

I agree. I really like their products & have the complete locking ABR & aluminum tailpiece on my LP traditional, which suits, & the locking tailpiece studs on my SG, which looks a bit off because the bridge & tailpiece (& tuners) are chrome & the tailpiece studs nickel. I'll be putting the locking studs & shims on my newly acquired P90 LP (& top wrapping) & again it'll look a bit off. Cheers

I think nickel is fine when its new but looks awful in a very short time. I've actually taken the nickel off a couple guitars and replaced the parts with chrome because they started looking cancerous after 6 months. Way I look at it, there's a good reason they switched to chrome.

I can understand that. I've had a bigger problem with chrome, so I started using nickel. Maybe poor chrome quality???

I've never had the most remote problem with chrome. My 79 LP has 39 year old chrome on it and other than the expected scratches here and there its as shiny as the chrome on my 2016.

Every time I have had a guitar with nickel it has looked like a set of tarnished silver serving plates inside of a year, plus it wears off easily and leaves that dull metal exposed. Not for me at all.

I suppose if I was going for an "aged" look it would be fine, but I prefer my guitars to look shiny and new for as long as possible.

So you just use the Faber shims with the standard studs Robert?? I have left over shims from two set of studs/shims, maybe I'll do that until I get the locking stud kit which I use so that the tailpiece doesn't get twisted on the studs when top wrapping. Aussie distributor is outta stock at the moment. Cheers

Yep. That's what I been doing. It's better to have the Faber bolt kit for the reasons you state, but I just use the washers on this one...there's a bit of wiggle in the threaded bolt/insert and the washers correct that.
