The Muse I Adorn

A FOOL REPORT IS REQUIRED DON!!! Take Pics!!!

Well I started off at GC Brea. Walked in and walked along the wall, 3 times. Not one said “try me”. Walked over to the higher end used room. About a dozen pieces in there. None spoke to me. So I puruesed the used amp section, nothing of note. Was in and out in about 10 minutes.

Over to Sam Ash. A much better selection and over 2x the selection. Almost all the Strats were maple neck and not a single CS. Over to the Gibson section. 3 or 4 nice LPs and then this cherry SG caught my eye. 3 P90s, hmm, I don’t have a P90 guitar. A Gary Clark model (truth is I didn’t know who he is). So I take it off the wall and plug it into a DSL40CR. 3 volume knobs and a master tone knob. Nice action, plays well, then I started to play with the pup combos. In rhythm setting ya get the neck and well, could not figure out which other. The sales guy comes over and we start tapping the pups with his tool. Hmm, strange. Go to treble setting and ya get the bridge and we’ll, hmmm, couldn’t figure it out. Sooo, just happens a Gibson rep was there tending to the Gibson’s. He comes over we introduce (name’s Robbie)and explain, we can’t figure the pup wiring. He does the same with a service tool and was also stumped. He pulls out his cell and logs onto his site but could not find a wiring diagram.

So we’re bs-ing more and I said, maybe it’s wired wrong??? We’ll I just couldn’t figure how to dial these guys in. So Robbie and I are are talking more and he talks about how the Sam Ash guys will deal more than the GC guys and the SA guys order higher end pieces and you won’t find this one at GC. So I mention I’m head to GC Fountain Valley next. We shake hands and down the road I go.

GC FV also has a good selection and half a dozen SGs. So I take a cherry 2018 model down and start picking. Action was high and the fret board rougher then the Gary Clark. Looked at a satin cherry one, but no “try me”.

As I’m walking around I see they have the Boss GT-1000 mega effects floor board widget I saw at NAMM. Was working up a deal and I look over in a rack and what is there ? A Gary Clark cherry SG. Hmmm. A minute later Robbie, the Gibson rep comes in, sees me and walks over and smiles. We bs for a few and I pointed over to the Gary Clark SG. He goes no way. The lead GC guy was there and said they just got it today.

So we’re all talking about how we couldn’t figure out the pup wiring. Another GC guy picks it up and plugs it in and goes through the selections he gets the the rhythm setting and low and behold we hear neck and middle. Just then I cry FOUL ! The model at Sam Ash had the middle pup and tone knobs swapped :BH:

So I didn’t come home with it, as I’d like to do a little research on it. But I did come home with the GT-1000 :D

They come in 'yellow' and cherry, and I tried to find one in Korea before I bought the junior - same price, MOP inlays, binding, 3 puppies, Gibson case; seems like great value if it plays as well as it looked.

Today I played my newly acquired 2012 Squier Strat SE. I paid $25 for it locally. Yesterday I modded it extensively... new tuners, bridge/trem, jack, string trees and loaded prewired pickguard. It plays and sounds fantastic!
