My pride and joy, 400HP AWD Evolution VIII has engine problems. Metal shavings in the oil filter. Is stalls when stepping on the clutch, definite crank walk syndromes. I can't afford a car payment, but I can't afford to lose my job. :steping:

So now I wait to see how much to repair my car with the minimal cost so it is drivable until I sell it. I might be able to swing a new car after the 1st of the year. Damn Subaru has 62 month free financing right now. Offer good thru April. I hope they have this at the end of the year.

I gotta say, I can vouch for the Subaru. I got mine about 2 years ago, and I have never been happier with a car. I like it even more than the Audi I used to have.

My son owns 2 scoobies. He has a bug eye WRX that he just put a freshly built 2.5 liter turbo motor from a STI and he also has a new Impreza. Him and his wife love them!

Thanks Chili. If I need to replace my car, I think I wanna go new. I have had much better luck with new cars and I know their history.

I bought a barely used, 30k miles car and had it blow a head gasket within 1 year, well under 100k miles. I know how to work on cars, I just don't want to have to work on them. I spent 20 years twisting wrenches professionally. I still have my Snap-On roll cab full of tools, I want to use them for fun stuff, not have to do stuff. My Evo had a 10 year 100k warranty which made me feel very comfortable. It has 120k on it now, but it was a fun 120k.

I'm still waiting to hear from the shop ROAD///RACE Engineering about my motor. I trust these guys, they are about the only mechanic shop that I do trust. These guys know their stuff and have been supporting drag, rally, road racing and drifting teams for the 2 decades that I have known them. One option is to let them build me a new motor. Bigger, better, more powerful.

I've been weighing my options depending on worse case scenario...

1- Have RRE patch it up as least expensive as they can so it will run again, then sell it. Use the $ for a down payment on another car.
2 - Have RRE build up my motor and keep the car.
3 - Find a used motor - It's been 13 years since they made this engine, slim pickins to find one with low miles.
4 - Buy a new car and sell my Evo as is... cheap.
5 - Buy a new car and keep my Evo because it will be a collectors car.

Decisions, decisions.

I gotcha Grant. I thought I was talking to a Ferengi.

I have never had money to burn, so if I spend more than a few hundred bucks on a car, I feel like I will never get my money's worth.
On the contrary, if I spend $200-$400 on a car and it serves me for 1 year, 3 years, 10 years, what have I lost?

Come to think of it, even like one time I spent $350 on a Subaru with a questionable transmission. I got a few years out of that car and then traded it to a salvage yard for like $300. Then I bought a $200 Honda Civic wagon from 1983. Not a pretty or perfect car, but it was a runner and great on gas.

Sorry I know how it feels my every day driver is a van I had to fix it My wife was killed I insured her Honda Pilot we still had ice on the roads My father in-law gave us an Aston Martin 2017 DB11
5.2L twin turbo 600HP for our anniversary last year Thanks Dad $12k a year insurance I have 68 miles on it.

Well poo! Re-fried dog poo. SOB, MF, GDI ARGH!!!!. I was at the Scooby Doo dealer and got the phone call. Yes it is crank walk... Bad crank walk to the point of possibly damaging the block. The worst case of crank walk they have seen in their shop, and they do a lot of these 4G63 engines. I could get a factory short block, send the head in for a valve job, replace the turbo, flush out the oil cooler and lines. Final cost out the door $8-$9k. Selling price as is, maybe $4k-$8k. I was hoping to get $15k with the car running, sell it to a private party and use that as a down. Bye bye down payment. I'm driving the wife's car now and she's not too happy that she is without a car.
