Rosewood vs Maple

I have Ebony on my acoustic. Rosewood on my G400 and Tele clone. Maple on my Strat. The Hagstrom Viking has some semi synthetic material that mimics Ebony. That said. Don’t really have a preference. I do like the look of the Ebony though.

I have a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe semi-hollow bodied guitar myself and the fret board is a wood composite that looks and feels like ebony but is more denser and consistent. It's called a resonator FB from the specs I read.

BTW...I ebonized the rosewood fret board on my '98 Fender American Std. Strat. I did this by cleaning the FB first with soap & water. Then I used a brush to lay on some ebony wood-stain that I got from the hardware store. I let it soak overnight. I repeated this process a couple more times so that the ebony stain would soak in good. Then I wiped off any excess and let it dry. After that I used raw linseed oil and brushed that on the entire fret board and let it soak overnight and repeating this process a few more times. The raw linseed oil sealed the wood grain and gave it more of an ebony look with a slight shine to it. The results turned out very well and I'm very pleased with the look of the FB.

My Martin D28, my Brain May, my Brian Moore and the neck I put on my Jazzmaster built is also ebony. The neck I just bought has an ebony fret board and it was the same price as maple or rose wood. I think ebony is a bit classy and I can't say why. Rose wood is the most common but things are getting weird with that wood. You need special papers to travel over seas with rose wood and I have been trying to find out who I need to go to. Roads lead me to the fish and game commission. Will a fishing license get my Epiphone into Berlin?

I really like that guitar neck...is that an ebony fret board and is it made by Fender? That's a really wide nut which I like...better for playing open chords. I know it's 1 7/8 " but what's the width in millimetres? I know most Fender nuts are commonly 43 mm wide at the nut.

42 on Fender and Gibson stuff is 43,

Naw honey bunny it's dark blue. I think unless they are talking about the back? They call it blue and the back is for sure is blue and I can see the grain.

Maple on Fender stuff like a Telecaster and my pure Strat. I have a Wolfgang guitar and it came with an Ernie Ball maple neck and fret board.

Whats PRS use on the SE models? damn good stuff ---seems rosewood ish--- but has a gloss to it.....very tight wood grain......me like
