Okay, so we've probably all seen this by now.

This the PRS Silver Sky, endorsed by Mr. John Mayer.

Some would say it looks a lot like a Strat!

However, the interwebs have not been kind to PRS, or Mr. Mayer for that matter over this.

Some spoofs have been created by some clever folks.

Witness the Fender Roasted Earth!

But, wait!

There's more!!!

Not to be outdone, some other witty individual decided to get Gibson in on the act.

I give you, the John Mayer Signature Les Paul!

(Now this is funny!!!)

Though I am a Mayer fan myself (he can be a hell of a player when he means to), that was the most ridiculous attitude I've ever seen from an artist. If he misses strats so badly, he should have went back to Fender.

It would be less awkward than making PRS build a strat copy and making such fuss out of it.

OR -- here is a thought--- he could just play the "F"ing guitar he wants to WITHOUT THE $$$$$$$$$$$$ sucking endorsements........just saying

---drama --- free press-- marketing--- SALES makes Johnny a rich little boy....

wait 5 years him an FENDER will have a "reconciliation" when Paul cant afford to carry him any longer.............

Then will be the Reissued REISSUE of the RETURN of the JM Stracrapster ---for 23,000.00 with gold trim and actual JM sweat in the fretboard finish......

Now that's almost the perfect guitar.

24.75" scale, 1-7/8" nut width, 12" radius, ebony board, ditch the vibrato, add the TOM 12" roller bridge, aluminum stop bar locking tailpiece and triple humbuckers, along with full copper cavity shielding, a copper under pickguard plate, oversize CTS pots (500k volumes and 300k tones) with a .015uf tone capacitor, wired for control of all three pickups with a standard Strat-esque control layout and I will buy one....

Nope needs to be switching over to a Godin Strat.

I'm not a big John Mayer fan even though he plays guitar pretty good guitar...a bit full of himself I think. The Silver Sky Strat is an interesting concept but to me it's a Strat copy. I prefer the original PRS style body guitar...especially the one Carlos Santana played back in the late 1980's with the 24 frets and vibrato system. I noticed on the body of the Silver Sky that it has somewhat of a Fullerton curve on the body where you rest your arm on the slanted part. The cutaway looks very functional for ease of the upper fret access but doesn't look right on a Strat. I'd prefer a real Stratocaster like my trusty old '98 American Std. Strat which plays excellent after a good setup. Signature guitars tend to be over-priced and I'm not really into that jazz if you ask me.

It's probably a very nice guitar to play.
People are razzing it who haven't played it.
It looks like a Stratocaster. So what.
Many guitars look like Stratocasters.
The Stratocaster is a good design.
The whole fuss is stupid.
I have spoken.

:)

Agreed,,,,,, but ah the greed---
I have owned several strat shaped objects including this one bought on ebay for 48.00

Worked played and sound just fine.........I have had MIM Fenders and Lotus and SX and others.....great guitars......I have played HIGH dollar american strats and Fender Custom Shops etc. etc. great guitars .....felt like a strat....

Im just pointing out the silliness of the hype--- and the fact--- by continuing this thread we are adding to the hype and potentially JM's income.........
