Reactions to the Silver Sky from across the web....

Firebird....non-reverse, with a thick/wide 12 string neck, large volute, but strung only with 6....ebony board with split paralleogram inlay, twin Thro-Bak SLE-101's, TOM with Faber Locking Aluminum Tailpiece, black poly with gold hardware.....

FOLKS on the web are having a bit of fun for sure

PRS should just stick to the Custom 24 design or what ever that design is called. It stands on its own merrit. They dont need to make a Strat. Fender makes plenty of them.

I wonder if I could get a Silver Sky in red?

Is it a “Red Sky” then?

Well, I found an answer to my own question. Here’s the Silver Sky in red.

But, it’s still called the Silver Sky.

Hmph...

But, at $2299.00 I’d expect more than a gig bag!

In fact, if I had my heart set on a Strat-type guitar, at that price I’d probably just buy one of Fender’s higher end Stratocasters and avoid the PRS altogether, and still have money left over.

Here is a USA Stratocaster Elite, with the S-1 switching system, for $250.00 less than the Silver Sky and it includes a hard case.

ID MUCH rather have the Real deal than signature "knock off" copy
In the video above they mention the pickups are an homage to the pickups in the STRAT that JM plays.........wow ----I am actually disappointed in Paul--an otherwise innovative creative excellent guitar maker..........to sell out at such a monumental level ...

Oh for Chrissake...

Will you people please just STOP this.

"It's not a real strat".
"Paul sold out!"
"The guitar sucks."
Etc.

There are many Stratocaster copies out there. Lotsa people make them.
The closest thing PRS has is the 509. So Paul makes a genuine Stratocaster
copy to put in their lineup and he's "selling out"? Why is it ok for almost every
other guitar maker in the world to make an SSS guitar but if Paul does it he's
"selling out at a monumental level"? It's a signature model for a well known
guitar player.

Like the Gibson Johnny Smith
Like the Gibson Barney Kessel
Like the Gibson Tal Farlow
Like the Gibson Tony Iommi
Like the EBMM Steve Morse
Like the EBMM Valentine, Petrucci and Luke
Like the 8,639 signature models Fender makes

I guess they all sold out.
I call unfair treatment of Paul.

1- Paul did not "sell out". He made an SSS guitar for the PRS lineup.
2- It's probably a very nice guitar. I don't know because I HAVEN'T PLAYED ONE!
3- I like the PRS cutaway. It provides good fret access and a better neck joint than an SG.
4- I like the 3 X 3 headstock. I have always found to fender headstock to be stupid looking.
5- If the guitar has PRS core guitar quality, the price is a bargain.
6- As soon as Music Zoo gets one in I'm going to go try it out.
7- If I really like it I'm going to buy it JUST FOR SPITE.

^^ that

Folks, it's not like Paul "sold out" for Mayer. He's been making bolt-neck, single-coil guitars for a long time.

Here's a 1990 PRS EG-3:

Here's a DC 3 from about 10 years ago:

There have been other but I am too lazy to go looking. Maybe this new one looks a bit more Strat-like, but this is nothing new for PRS, and I would be willing to bet that it's built better and plays bettter than anything Fender has ever made in its history. The 7.25" radius is a deal-breaker for me, but other than that if I was looking for this style guitar I would definitely give the SS a look.

Oh I like the ebony fret board option on that Strat Witty Smitty! I don't know why Fender never used ebony FB's in the past. They look and feel great.
