Ace Frehley Blasts Gene, Paul & Tommy...

ME TOO!
had the chrome jacket (the one that caught fire and melted to you if you let a cigarette fall on it-------) --Jim Watkins style but -- cheap knock off with KISS screenprinted on the back

I went to the reunion tour, good rock and roll. I'd never pay a penny to see 2 inposters. There may as well be 4 inposters. As a matter of fact, I think I'd rather see Ace and Peter as Kiss without Gene and Paul.

+1 for New York Groove (and Fractured Mirror (I think)). Man I'm old!!!!

FYI, I would never join the Kiss Army, I'm a conscientious objector.

Not sure why Ace and Peter never did an off shoot --- I bet Gene and Paul have a LOCK on the legally --- HEre we pay you for rights to what you DID ---as long as you do not DO that any more type thing I bet.

they could create the "Anti-KISS".....where black face instead of white--- call it SSIK (Foogin million dollar idea right there) --- play all the old KISS songs....backwards!!!!!!!!!!!! buwahahahahahah

too much coffeee ---tailspin----- mayday mayday --its a twister!

I understand. I was kinda a late bloomer KISS fan. They had songs I’ve always liked. Just not enough to buy an album. For whatever reason, somewhere in the last 10 years I started watching some concerts on TV and found I was really getting into it.

That's similar to me. I pretty much ignored them my whole life and only in the last few years started paying attention to their material. I wouldn't classify myself as a KISS fan, but it is pretty obvious to see the place they have in American rock history, whether you like them or not.

I suppose since I was never one of the KISS Army or a devoted fan, I have more of an "outside-looking-in" sort of viewpoint over the original lineup versus the current one and the drama that has been part of the KISS story for years. I sort of see all sides, but don't have an ardent opinion of my own.

When I was in kindergarten we used to pretend we were Kiss. Playing with Matchbox cars in the sandpit I used to be Peter Criss. It was not really about the music, just the larger than life characters. We pretended we were Kiss driving our cars, going to the store to buy milk, buying more cars, building houses. They were just a part of our life. When we got a couple of years older, we started digging the music, mostly because one of my friends' older brother who had a room full of Kiss posters. Love them or hate them, they were a lot more than a band, they were a cultural phenomenon. I have to say their albums up until "Love Gun" are absolute classics. I still listen to them. It's hard to pick favorites, but "Kiss" and "Destroyer" are probably the ones I like best.

I think over the years I went as every member for Halloween.....it was a full blown MErch Marketing Juggernaut previously unseen at the time...cloths, action figures, fake tattoos ....the list of "merch" was and still is ridiculous----
Relatives where getting (me) an 8 or 9 (when they hit full stride) year old kid, KISS stuff for Christmas and birthdays because well that was the "thing the kids are into" ....and I was hooked....
ANyone ever watch the KISS Movie---- its HORRIBLE--- but ---as a 70's era pre teen --- it was the SHITE! Those guys had "special powers" and where like SUPERHEROS ..........
the reality--- eh--- they are a decent solid rock band ---who--- I attest--without the "flair and pomp" would have done a couple albums and blown away like so many others.....The "business" of KISS is what has stood the test of time-- more so than the music....do they even still make new music? I dunno--
I lost interest in the late 80's when jobs.....and careers, and then KIDS and marriage and mortgages and REALITY got in the way ..............still love the old stuff.

I dunno, I actually think the first 5 records stand on their own as some of the greatest hard rock of the '70's and they would have had great success based on the music alone. The problem as I see it was that by the time Love Gun came out the theatrics and marketing machine had surpassed the music as the driving force in the band and therefore the music suffered. There are a couple of okay tracks on that album but its mostly just "product" and everything that has come after it has been a farce. But in particular "Kiss" and "Dressed To Kill" are a couple of the best damn records ever made. I don't love how it turned out, but I am a Kiss fan for life.

My uncle saw them plenty times like 3-5 feet away in clubs in early NYC days.
Says the make up would run real bad when they were sweating.

My first concert - with Uncle Rick - MSG around 77 or or so; think I was in 8th grade.
Thought he was taking me to the lame ass circus. It was right around now, for my birthday. Then I started hearing the sound check!!
The only part I remember clearly was the smoke coming out of Ace's guitar.

I was into the music, not so much into the hype and costumes stuff; but it was a fun part of what they are / were.
I used to sing a lot of non kiss not rock songs in a Gene voice, for kicks.
Mostly like the way he sings Cold Gin. add a lot of deep long And Im so tiyyuuuuuurd, YEEeeaahhhh!!!

They lost me with the disco and I was made for loving you, though I dont hate the song.
I always liked Pauls kind of in and out of character singing, ad libbing, etc. or what ever you call it.

I want a Paul Stanley Destroyer!!

the off tempo or in between strum patterns / rhythms in Deuce always intrigue me.

Oh yeah Dressed To Kill was epic!

do yourself a favor avoid the stuff from the mid to late 80's --- after the "DYNASTY" album which was dripping with DISCO ---- it went south......they took the make off ---it went Souther---- ....and so on...

But hey they still make bank....so what do I knwo

I think it went south well before that, personally. Rock and Roll Over is mostly solid - there is a little bit of cash grab going on (Calling Dr. Love? Cheesy joke made for pop radio. Hard Luck Woman? ugh. Makes "Beth" sound like metal) but overall is redeemed by the classic, great songs like "I Want You" and "Makin' Love." But... it was the first chink in the armor, though I give it a big pass because it was released so soon after "Destroyer" which is just a freaking amazing record. "Love Gun" is mostly disaster though (but the title song kicks), and even the production is failing them on that one - it's really muddy sounding and has claustrophobic placement of the instruments. It was the end of the line for me, really, and I have pretty much hated every note that they have recorded since.

I seriously doubt that the costume was his creation.
All their costumes were probably designed by
people who specialize in that sort of thing.
The same goes for their stage sets, pyriothchnics, lighting
and any choreography that may have been used.
The entire kiss circus was designed and manufactured
by professional "image and marketing" people.

They said they designed their own costumes so it must be true in some sort of fashion Tony Manhattan. They probably had help from a professional tailor to assemble their outfits together.

One of the comments in the link I posted above had the idea that they could do an album with the songs featuring a different lineup from their history.

So, if I’m following the idea correctly, you’d have some songs with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, others with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer. Others with Bruce Kulick. Others with Vinnie Vincent. Singer would play drums on those songs featuring Kulick or Vincent.

It is an interesting idea.
