These Strings!!!!!

So, when I started playing this guitar, I thought "holy biscuits, these strings are tough!"

I knew it had been strung with D'Addario XL's but I didn't remember the gauge used.

Its a NOTICEABLY heavier string than the EB Hybrid .009's I'm using on my Gibson SG and the tone is just jaw dropping.

When I say "tone" I mean the string to string clarity and the "punch" that each string produces. Some of this may be the guitar, but I think some of it is in the strings.

So, I measured this morning:

.011" - .015" - .019" - .028" - .038" - .048"

I know these double necks are really shorter than 24.75" scale and the 1/2 step bend in Tesla's Love Song (at the 20th fret) is tough, but the attack and sustain is simply incredible.

Here you can see the multi-colored ball ends....but I can't find a set that measures out to these numbers.....?????

Which set would this be????

The 11/49 is close...at .011" - .014" - .018" .028" - .038" - .049" and the 10-46 measures .010" - .013" - .017" - .026" - .036" .046"

Alex the builder told me he put D'Addario XL's on but wasn't sure of the gauge used on the 6 string neck...

Is this much fuller, more mellow sound the string gauge or the construction???
Subjective. You’re the one with the guitar in question. You’re going to have to answer that one yourself.

In my experience, it’s a combination of strings, and guitar. My 24.75, and 24 scale guitars are mostly happy running 10s in my hands. They feel and sound “right” to me.
My 25.5 scale guitars seem ok with 9, or 10 gauge....I’ve picked up some 9.5s to try out at their next string change.(my Schecter definitely feels more “right” with 10s than 9s though)

I used to string the 61 RI
10 - 13 - 15 - 28 - 38 - 49
but I got tired of having to use half each
of 2 sets of strings so I "normalized" it.

Now all my guitars except the EBMM SMY2D are
10 - 13 - 17 - 26 - 36 - 46

The Y2D is
10 - 13- -16 - 26 - 32 - 42

...and yes, I do play a little bit differently on the Y2D,
not much, but it's enough for my bandmates to notice it.

Wow, guys, thanks for your insight and experience!!!

The most puzzling things about the doubleneck is how loud it is acoustically. It's unreal. Maybe it's the one piece mahogany necks, ebony boards or aluminum "top loader" tailpieces - I am not sure, but there is something unique about it.

Strings!!!

I will say the bend/vibrato (the final note) in "Love Song" by Tesla, which is played on the 20th (and final) fret on the DoubleNeck, is quite a bit tougher with the D'Addario 10.5's than with my usual Ernie Ball .009's, but, having said that, the tone is so much more "ballsy" and full, that I dare not change them!!!!

So, I picked up some EB "Rock-N-Roll" .010's. Theze are the pure nickel core with nickel wrap. Some say they sound brighter. I'm not sure...but I am confident that R-N-R on the package will summon the tone elves of doom once I open the package...
