I just got this dead amp in the customer does not want to fix it.
Blown power transformer all capacitors shot and a 8ohm speaker not the 4ohm it should have.
If I fix it stock new power and output transformer can capacitor plus the signal capacitors around $200.00
in parts. I cant find any data on the 8" Eminence Legend my guess 20 watts max.

I can't find any data on a Eminence Legend that's 8". Their 10" and 12" are rated for around 75 to 80 watts. Eminence does make an 8" under the Patriot model... and that's rated for 20 watts.

Just so happens, that last week I got the chance to do some "freshening-up" on my friends 1971 Fender Champ. I replaced the stock 2-prong AC cord with a 3-pronger. Therefore, I disconnected the "death" cap, too. I also replaced the stock Mallory 40-20-20 multi filter cap with a new one by CE Manufacturing. Replaced the 3 white electrolytic caps that are seen in the above pic, with semi new ones. The old ones have drifted up in values; the stock 25uF's measured over 35uF's, the 2uF was measuring about 3.7uF. Ironically, I had my friend listen to the amp while I temporarily installed 3 different cap values to that 2uF 2nd bypass cap, that's coming off of the second half of the V1 preamp tube (the middle white one). A 2.2, a 3.3, and a 4.7uF that actually measured 5.3uF. Guess what? We both agreed that the 5.3 sounded the best of all. Also replaced the faulty On/Off switch. Also discovered that the nuts securing the original Oxford speaker were not snugged at all. They came loose with just my finger strength. Well, the amp is 46 years old! Cleaned the 3 pots and tube sockets, too.

I'm not sure which part made the biggest difference, but what an amazing difference it was for the better. I'm so surprised and impressed by the sound of this amp. I have so much more respect for the little blackface and silverface Fender Champ. I wish I had one now.

In this pic, I have not replaced the 2uF cap yet. In fact, the Fender factory installed 2x 1uF's in parallel... probably cuz they didn't have any 2uF's in their parts inventory... ha ha!

1973 Champ. Cool. I have one, too. The speaker cone was torn when I got it, so I replaced it with a 4 ohm Weber. It also had the three-prong power cord mod when I got it.

I love that little amp.

The Silver Face amps had a bad time even when times were good. I never had one and only got to play thru one. I was ok with it and it was new and I knew I never wanted a Silver Face. Good luck with what ever you end up doing. The guy just dropped it off? I would have put it in the proper place like a city dump. Nothing left to save but make a cab out of it. Then again that speaker is not prize.

I will make a good sounding amp out of it. But I have no love for silver face Fenders I look at them as parts amps but I will restore Black face Fenders.
This is a 1964 Princeton I restored it sounds good.

What was done in the the Silverface Fenders to make them sound worse than the Blackface Fenders?
If we're still talking about Champs, one difference that I know about is the silverfaces have slightly bigger filtering compared to the blackfaces. But that doesn't make it better or worse. Maybe Fender changed the trannies between them, and that could make a difference. Once again, not sure if it's better or worse. My friends '71 SF Champ sounds so nice as is. I have never played thru a BF Champ.

My friend Dr. Eric Smith offered me free transformers that will power 2 6v6 4 12AX7 I can order a Princeton chassis from Mojotone.

This layout was a Christmas gift from Eric 2015. It's an Overdrive Reverb amp Dumble in a black face Princeton chassis.
