Same thing I had always heard. I think Pagey has confirmed this himself, unless he's been pulling a Rev. Willie G and purposely sending people off in the wrong direction.

Or like a young Eddie Van Halen telling people that he used a variac to increase the voltages to his Marshalls for the EVH Brown sound... what a Butthead! I wonder how many amps were blown by naïve tone chasers back in the day... :rolf:
 
I have heard nothing but good things about WGS speakers. Its on my list.
I plan on building some speaker cabs instead of more combo amps for variety and to keep the cost down.

Pardon my confusion on you saying you needed some Ampeg speakers, 67. I mentioned the EV Bass speakers for use on a Bass amp/speaker cab application, but maybe I mis-read and you needed guitar speakers for Ampeg and not Bass ones? I was thinking you were needing speakers for an Ampeg bass amp/cab.

Hope that wasn't too confusing. Do you give a thumbs up to the EVM12L's for Guitar?

I also think of EV in the larger sizes like here. ElectroVoice EV 15L/15B, EVX-150A. Put it in a nice big cab, you'll be very happy with it. It's got a fat thunderous sound that can easily shake the rafters. The 18" model is good too. Handles a kilowatt. Not a lot of high end, but you can cross it over and add a horn, or just use it by itself (you're a BASS player, right?). I think it peaks out at around 2 kHz, which is plenty for most basses. It's great for that fat old-school sound, like you can run an Acoustic 370 or a Sunn through it and get that thunderous bass "way" out into the audience. I have a couple of the 18" EVX versions in my subs, I'm very happy with them, they're some of the best speakers I've ever had (for one thing, they're still alive, in spite of my best efforts to kill 'em, I regularly run a couple kilowatts through 'em and they do just fine). They're very precise, very punchy for big speakers, if you add a good horn you can get some amazingly detailed and articulate sound.

EV speakers in my humble opinion are the finest sounding guitar amp speakers ever made by man. EVM-12-L and EVM-12-S

The confusion is WGS is a guitar speaker only company not Bass.

I had a customer with a fried voice coil Ampeg 10" speaker. Ampeg is using Eminence speakers now 150 watt 10" 16 ohm. It was under warranty so I used what Ampeg dictates.

My 1982 EV 3 way PA speakers still sound great 15" EVM-15-S 8" mid driver 1.5" horn just fine for band practice.

The 18" EVX sound like wonderful speakers for subs.
 
Thanks 67 Steve. I see what you are saying about WGS. I knew they made decent speakers, just never looked at whether they made Guitar only ones.

My only experience swapping "Guitar speakers" was in my Princeton Chorus where I swapped the Special design Fenders for what I consider a nice upgrade. Weber Vintage 10F150T Ceramic speakers.
