HERATICH!

Ted McCarty would probably rolling in his grave.....

Sorry, this guy is a jackass.
First, the tired old nib thing - I'm sick of people blaming the guitar for their sloppy technique. Can't play it? Don't buy a guitar with nibs! (to be fair he said he wanted an HP for that reason, so he did learn his lesson).

Next, no pal, the binding is not supposed to be flush. Never has been, is not now and probably never will be. The paint is scraped off the binding after the finish is applied and before the clear is sprayed...it leaves a small ridge. Was the same in the '50's as it is now and just a little bit of research would have told you that.

And so he buys a guitar over the internet and has it shipped and expects a perfect setup out of the box? That kind of crap is infuriating. Dude, you want a perfect setup, go to a dealer where you can play the guitar and have them dial it in for you while you are there. Order it on the internet and then complain that it needs a setup? You're just looking for something to bitch about. And this is not limited to Gibsons sold online - I've seen every make come out of the box needing a setup. One of the PRS' I bought was so bad I thought the guitar was damaged in shipping. What did I do? I gave the damn thing a setup.

He doesn't even realize the goo in the serial number is polishing compound, not paint. Ugh.

Rant over. Sorry guys.

(Snarky, Smart-Alec mode: On)

How can that possibly be?!?!? I thought PRS was perfect in every way!

(Snarky, Smart-Alec mode: Off. Smitty is back to his cute, cuddly, and lovable self)

I haven't bought a new Gibson since 2012...I wonder what they're like now, but the only place that sells them new, around me now, is guitar denter. I don't like their stores.

My guitars are excellent, after I change the wire harness and pickups, then do a fret level and crown... :-)

I hate their stores, but you can use them to check things out. They don't take good care of the stock though so I try not to make judgments about brands/models based on what they have on the GC floor. Best thing with guitars is to make them pull something straight out of the stock room to try.

Good point!

In all fairness to Jason Post, the author of the above video, that guitar has some serious issues. I don't know if even resetting the neck will resolve it. That guitar is seriously F'd up. When Gibson gets the guitar back, it'll probably be destroyed. What a shame, cuz it's a beautiful top.

As far as the ridge Mr. Post is feeling below the binding, I can say this: I have not put my hands on a new Gibson in decades. No dealer within a two hour drive, sells new Gibsons. But I have five guitars with binding and gloss finish. Three of them are Gibsons, and the other two are Hamers. None of them have the problem that Mr Post is describing. Perfectly smooth with the exception on my 2011 Gibson 50th Anniversary PT SG. That SG's neck and body is painted all white with a clear coat. You can barely feel the transition from painted neck to the binding. In all cases, the clearcoat is applied to upper edge of the binding for a very smooth transition.

Mr. Post finally gets his guitar though:

And every Gibson is an overpriced POS.
NOPE not this one ;) its FOOKING awesome and FYI Gballl--- I charged the battery --- let the robotuners do THEIR THING and it was and is PERFECTION out of the box--- no "set up" at all of any type --- no adjustments needed....not a one....so it IS POSSIBLE for GIBBO to do this---(a phenomenon which other makers seem to be able to achieve--- open box--tune and play) ----- but man you gotta go through some Gibby STINKERS to get a good one--- and I got one --- and its going NOWHERE....ever ---- precious-----my precious.......yes it is
