I was just looking for a good reason '

IMG_5594.JPG IMG_5590.JPG IMG_5591.JPG I need an acoustic guitar now and then for a few jobs. I have a resonator and I don't count that. I have an Ovation and it is nice enough. I have a Sea Gull that was not much money and sounds good. I missed the Martin D28 I had in,the early 1970's. I had to sell it and I don't remember why? My part time friend and full time girl on the side said she wanted to record an album of ballads. That was my reason and I went shower over the phone. I don't want electric on it or a cut away. Nothing for poor me. The guy that owns Pittsburgh Guitars called back that he could sell me a new Martin D28 with a great strap, of course it comes with a case and some other stuff. The D28 was mine tax included for $2,100 bucks. My top that I was going to spend was $1,000 bucks. I did go up to 1,200 so I went a tad over budget. How ever I made a new friend. John owns Pittsburgh Guitars took my credit card over the phone and delivered the beautiful Martin D28 to my door. My girl or full time crazy bitch Tia said you bought that and on you never left home, did you use your American Express? Yes I did and this guitar sounds so great. Rose wood body, ebony bride and fret board. A spruce top and amplified sound by Shure 57 mics.

Wow! That is a beauty! I sold my Martin 000-28 EC and I still regret it. Don't let that one get away!

I know Martin had some problems in the 1970s. The new ones are worlds better than many of the old ones. The Martin rep called me about a certain model I was looking for. He said Martin is hitting a new golden era now. I played that guitar and I believe him.

Beautiful! I always thought i was more of a Taylor guy, but a Martin won me over. Congrats!
Thank, you very much. Taylor happened to to fast, Martin has been around since before the Civil War. They could not have been kinder to me.

Agreed. I got the DCPA4. It is very resonant. I had to fashion my own saddle to be happy with the action. I am used to electric so I keep it low

This guitar and I just click. Some Telecasters you know when you got a good one. All are nice but the way the the string snaps back and the neck and how it feels. Same feeling with an amp, little things tell you it's a good one. Not so much into acoustic guitars but those things just hit me that this is a good one. Hell yes I have some dogs that ain't never gonna be right.

I told them to set it up like an electric. The 6th or fat E is 1.25 at the 6th fret. It is only 1.5 at the 12th fret. Millimeters is what I understand and work with. Low is better for my sloppy playi.

Mmmmmm, rosewood. I dig it.
The perfect Martin.
And I AM a Taylor guy, times two.
That'll give a lifetime of enjoyment for sure.

The D28 was the only one I really would want. I have all the respect possible for Taylor Guitars and Bob Taylor with his views on the environment. Mr Taylor is a good guy and the way he treats customers it fantastic.

What started this was I wanted a DVPA4 like you guitar. A short waiting list and then I asked for a
DSR2. It was in my price range. I was in no hurry but the wait would have been November. He said he had a D28 very close at $2,100 yankee dollars. Over but I am weak as said toss in a pack of picks at retail and yep! I only wanted a wood guitar with out a cutaway or electrics. Now you know the rest of the story. Damn I miss Paul Harvey.

I'm not either but I have some work ahead that requires one. I was a bit shunned off by a used one. I have a 1969 Yamaha 12 that was made in Japan. The sound this thing put out is heavenly. The old red tags were great guitars. I had to reset the neck and that is ugly.

IMG_5734.JPG I miced it and that was very restrictive. I bought a Baggs pick up for. I was never very happy with after market acoustic pickups in the past. This one is very good and the tone of the Martin stays true with no feed back or hissing noises. I did not do a permanent install because I don't want to drill into this thing till after my credit card bills is in the mail.

Good choice with the D-28. That is the standard by which all other guitars fall short.
And yes, there's been a lot of progress in the technology of amplifying acoustic signals in the
last forty years. Everybody's plugged in now, from the mandolin to the doghouse bass.

I'm not against Taylor, or Seagull, or L'Arrivee... Those all make good guitars. But the D-28 is
the one I've always wanted, and will likely never have. I'm actually blessed with fine guitars
so I don't really need one. I've also lusted after the Gibson J-45... another classic.
But I can't justify the money outlay. I think you got a really good deal on an excellent Martin.

I don't trust the future these days, (if any) so I'm hunkering down and getting very stingy with
my cash. Like I 'm going to need it badly later. I'll play the ones I have.

I down deep really wanted a D28 after seeing one hang in a shop when I was a kid. No one I knew was allowed to play it. You had to look like you could afford it. That was the biggest guitar store in Dublin. I saw a man walk in, point to it and buy it. My dream went out that door and I wanted to do just that one day. I didn't feel like getting dress on my days off so I emailed the store. The owner got my email and we conducted business with out speaking. He delivered my D28 the next day. I had a few little requests that were taken care of. He came over with it opened the case and it was love at first sight. I have a few very nice guitars but like you said this is how others measure quality.
By far the best guitar in every point, perfect if l may say so. My Les Paul Standard is great but I never felt like this about it. Tia my girl will play any of my guitars but she said she will never play it because it's a one man thing. She is a very great guitar player and my boss when I play in her band. Thank you for your works, I really did enjoy your view on this. That photo is of Tia, I,brought her and 23 others from China when I was involved she Amnesty International.
