Mouse Droppings

This one is the title track to the follow up album to their wildly successful American Idiot. For me, this caps my favorite trilogy of their albums beginning with Warning where their songwriting became a bit more sophisticated compared to their usual 2-3 minute songs. Of course no one will ever confuse them with Yes but this was a cool period to see them grow beyond the Dookie type tunes.

21st Century Breakdown - Green Day

This is a quick one I recorded before I headed off for vacation a month ago. I actually recorded this before as a collaboration with a friend on another site many years back but I wasn't happy with how I played it and it turned out I even played a part very wrong. I decided to give it another shot and added the bass for good measure.

Meaning of Life - The Offspring

So I'm back with another Tool song and their longest one at that so my expectations of anyone really making it through this are pretty low lol. For any die-hard Tool fans here, you'll have to forgive me for my lack of tonal accuracy in many places. There's a lot going on and I did the best cobbling together reasonable tones with the equipment I have. There's a bit of pedal tap dancing on this one as I was toggling between an OD, wah filter, delay and even a small part with a ring modulator on the final solo. I did 4 takes and chose the best 2 panned 80% left/right. They lined up pretty well throughout but in a couple of spots...meh.

Anyhow, I've been threatening to give this one a try for quite a while and finally went for it when I was away for a month. I figured I'd learn a part or 2 a day and just keep playing it until everything was memorized. So if you have a spare 16 minutes or so, feel free to check it out. :D

7empest - Tool

As I've been playing bass more lately and getting a bit more comfortable, I decided to finally give this a try which I've had on my list for years but never attempted. Many should recognize this song from the Reservoir Dogs soundtrack. There's a lot going on with the bass part and I didn't try to learn every little lick and nuance. In fact I'm playing it safe in some areas by playing my own thing through the progression just to try to get through it all. The guitars were pretty straight forward and on the "lead" guitar I'm using an octave effect to get the double guitar thing going.

It was a fun tune and I'm glad I finally got around to giving it a try. Maybe one day I'll even get a better bass and (gasp) learn to use my right hand fingers.

Little Green Bag - George Baker Selection

Very neat, I enjoyed that! I pitched doing this song to the band but the rest weren't in favor. Nice job, nice bass tone, too. Keep 'em coming. :celebrate:

Thanks PelliX. It's a shame your band turned this down. It's fun to play and I think crowds will like it. It would also make you guys stand out as I don't think too many bands cover this one. Keep pushing lol!

To be fair, this is the country where that song originated, it's a staple in pop culture (together with the few other odd hits coming from here, Venus, for example). It would go down very well and I could elbow the drummer into doing it, but I'd need the/a singer on that one. It may just become a solo/dou project for a laugh at some point. If/when that occurs, I'll let you know. Thanks!

Ah...I hadn't noticed your location. Yes, that changes things of course. If you ever do play it with the band, I'd love to hear a recording.
