Lollar Staple P90?

What noise gate are you using?
Now…TC electronics “The Sentry”. Plays well with the finicky pedals, fuzz, wah, treble booster etc. Transparent.
Have also enjoyed the venerable Boss NS2 over many years. Some of the finicky pedals need to be placed carefully for best results. It has a sound/feel.
Also tried the EHX Silencer. Not at all what I wanted. If you ever wanna try it, let me know.

I meant to say something earlier and I forgot. The Phat cat isn't an option, it has to be a soapbar P90 for my Classic.

Got ya, My experience with soap bars has always led to what Gibson made always seemed to work best vs all the others have tried

Congratulations - I bet the Lollar will be great.

No personal experience with that one, but I have a Duncan staple (from the Custom Shop) at the neck in one LPC and it sounds great. Adjustable poles too, not that it makes a whole lot of difference on this type.

I already got this pickup. It came 2 day air, I didn't choose that, but it is on my receipt so I guess I wasn't paying attention and it defaulted back to it when I updated my account with my new address in the middle of placing my order. Oh well.

So...I've been working with it all afternoon and I have to say...I don't like it. :ROFLMAO:

...actually that's not true, I do like it on it's own, but I'm not liking it paired with the Custom P90 in the bridge. Plus it's not noise cancelling in the middle. I liked the regular Lollar neck P90 a lot more in this guitar once I got it dialed in and it is noise cancelling in the middle position with my SD bridge so I'm going to go back to it.

I'll be putting the staple in my Tele, like I kind of expected might happen when I ordered it. It's a sweet pickup and I think it'll be great in there. I wouldn't have ordered it without that backup plan.

I'll let you know how that goes when I do it. I have to find my P90 pickguard first. I know I have one, but I haven't seen it in years. lol.

A little bit of an update on this staple p90 because if anyone is thinking about getting one you should know a couple of things. 1st know that @syscokid was right to point out the size difference. The guy from Lollar that told me they fit no problem was right, it does fit, but it doesn't fit "right". It is indeed slightly wider than a normal P90 and I mean very slightly, but it was just enough that when I lowered the pickup a little while trying to tweak out some of the bassy bottom end it got wedged in the rout and I couldn't raise it back up. It took me a while to work it out of there with so little to grab a hold of. Talk about pissing me off! Another thing I didn't like was that when I put a piece of foam under the back side to help it tip forward a little so it's flat with the strings it fits too snug in the rout to tilt any so it sat tilted back and was driving me crazy. The foam trick works great with a regular p90, but not with the staple.

So I finally got it back out and put the regular Lollar neckP90 I have back in it. I think it sounds better with the bridge pickup, too.

I'm going to eventually put it in my Tele, but I still haven't found my pickguard yet.

Well crap! I finally found my P90 pick guard (it wasn't easy either) and went to put the staple in only to find out my Tele isn't routed for a P90 neck pickup. I was sure I ordered the body with a P90 route so I could go with whatever neck pickup I wanted, but I guess I was thinking of another one. I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of dremeling it out.

I guess I need to buy another P90 guitar after all.

That adapter ring will be kinda like a template to show how much to trim the corners. :yesway:

Yep, I was already thinking that. :yesway:

What I'm worried about is it not being the same size (outside) as a Gibson HB ring and the mounting holes not lining up. I've been there before. But for 10 bucks, we'll see.

If the holes are slightly off, try the wood glue & toothpicks trick.
We'll see how it fits. I'm not going to do anything that will prevent me to put a regular HB back in it it I want to. I actually had plans to (eventually) get a new set of double black JWPs for it. A Godwood/Darkburst set like the zebras I originally wanted to use. Those pickups sounded best in it, but I didn't like the Zebra look.

i've actually had very nice results using a Chinese made no-name staple P90 pickup
(which i found on Reverb for about $45 USD iirc*):
albeit in a T-type as opposed to a Les Paul, and not in anything close to a high gain setting
but if you're looking at this kind of pickup you're probably not thininkg that much about high gain use though.
i think the pickup has very nice detail and bloom, with that lovely bit of raspy edge bite to it as the volume knob gets turned up
and i think that a lot of that is possibly down to the basic design as opposed to whose name is on the box.

* this looks to be about the same thing: https://reverb.com/item/48791719-er...90-soap-bar-guitar-pickup-neck-or-bridge-neck
