D'Addario are the only strings that i use exclusively, now for the past 12 years. Have never had one break to date 9-46 and 10-46s Nickel wound XL. They hold up very well, i play 2 hours each day, longevity is about 3 months, once they become dull sounding, a new set goes on.

I was a D’addario diehard for all the reasons you mention. But I’ve gotten hooked on Stringjoys. Their Signature line of strings sound great, last way longer, and don’t require as much stretching when installed. I’ve got five sets on a shelf, and am wondering when this set will go dead.

To be honest. I have no favorites for the electric guitars. Don’t think I’ve bought the same brand two times in a row. And I don’t buy based on price. I know some peoples answer to this question is “whatever’s on sale when I need to buy strings.”

Now. Acoustic strings. Won’t string the Ovation up with anything other than Elixer’s. Been using them for 20 years. Before that it was always Martin Marquis. Discovered Martin’s sound great for about 15 minutes and Elixer’s tone doesn’t start falling off for months. No brainer.

Today?

Pure Nickel. I’m not brand specific.

Well, unless I’m going with Thomastik-Enfeld. Then it’s T&E flats. For electrics, for my money, it’s buy once cry once. They last forever. Any dullness, from the flats, can be compensated for by your tone knobs. Both amp and guitar.

And no string squeak.

Exactly my experience with Stringjoy, too. I used D’Addario years ago but have swapped all my electric guitars over to Stringjoy.

I've tried various gauges and brands.
Stopped looking when someone recommended these.
Haven't bought anything else since.

I've been using D'Addario XL 10-46 for almost 40 years. I've tried others, but always go back.

Hmmm so these seem to last ages, hey...
They look tough to properly get here.
I usually go EB. Most guitars get only and hr of play each show so they last awhile.
I tried the EB Paradigm on one and I now forget which! Sadly....

Update on strings from Chateau IbLive. Been working on the bass. There's a thread here somewhere describing my journey. Anyway. I had removed the string to do the work. Since I got it finished was putting the strings back on. Crossing my fingers I'd be able to reuse them. Got the E and A installed. The D string broke at the tuner. So..... just ordered what will probably be the last set of strings I'll personally be putting on this bass. My kid can put on whatever he wants after he inherits it.

Decided to go Elixir's.

I used to always use the Ernie Ball "Rock and Roll" Nickel Slinkys, 10-46. I liked the sound of them better than the regular Slinkys. I used them as a cheaper alternative to the Gibson Nickel strings which I really liked the sound of. They were a bit warmer or darker than the Ernie Balls. I would always switch to the Gibson strings before gigs or going into the studio.

Ever since I started using Pyramid "Pure Nickel Classics" on my electrics, there's been no turning back. I use 10-46 on most of the guitars except a couple of my Strats. I use the "Jimi Hendrix" sets that are 10-38. On my Rick 12 string, I use Pyramid Pure Nickel Round Wounds 09-42.
