Anyhow, 2 hours of driving and an hour of cleaning and setup....

Here is my new (old) Goth SG.

I had the Goth explorer and it was my main squeeze for a very long time. (That now belongs to my other guitarist)

Found this for a great deal.
It needs a new output jack, but otherwise... Playable condition!

Here it is with new strings, knobs, and a lot of cleaning finished.

Here's how it came home with me

I sold my only other SG to a former student and have been missing that guitar ever since....
This one is just as cool and plays just the same.
Minus the woody feel to the neck of course.

Pretty stoked, I'll set it all up this weekend when I can find time.

Love the Gothics. I missed my chance, they were easy to find about 10 years ago.

Stock pickups? What are they?

Yes stock pickups. They are Alnico 5 Classics is all I know.

They are smoothish, not super dynamic, but I kind of like them as they are quite different from everything I play through.
I haven't taken it out to the big amps and given it a full test yet. More to come.

I asked the guy what's up with the headstock repair ... He replied no break... it's a small bracelet! Ha ha ha I yanked it off and tossed it.

Tonight I had a bunch of whiskey and wired in a black winter I had on the shelf..... Nope! Not a good tone ....
. Put the original back on and apparently I'm too drunk to solder ha ha ha will fix it tomorrow.

Congrats! SGs are like young women to me... love to look, but cannot hold. The way I play they just always sound out of tune, and it feels like I'm forever reaching left. But... can't deny that wicked aestetic they bring visually, tonally too.

I like it off because it's less shiny.... But then it looks a little more like the esp.... not sure yet.
