Ok, I may have solved the mystery of why all the saddles were moved all the way forward on this guitar. All were intonated except the high 'e,' but the guitar never sound right. My first thought was a mathematical problem.
Measuring the distance from the nut shelf to the posts on the Floyd rose, I came up with 25.625"
So, I did some more investigation. Turns out the guitar has a fender Cyclone neck, which is 24.75" scale, verified by measuring from the fretboard edge of the nut shelf to the center of the 12th fret, which came out as 12.625" - which still isn't correct for a short scale - the correct distance should be 12.375" on a 24.75" scale.
This means the bridge is 1/4" (.250) too far rearward, which causes you to have to move the saddles all the way forward.
There's more...even though intonated at the 12th fret, it sounded off in the lower register, so I started measuring the fret centerlines from the fretboard edge of the nut shelf:
1st fret: 1.380"
2nd fret: 2.682"
3rd fret: 3.915"
12th fret: 12.625"
According to the Stewi-Mac calculator, the above measurements should be:
1st fret: 1.389"
2nd fret: 2.700"
3rd fret: 3.938"
12th fret: 12.375"
This was definitely not right, so what I came up with was, this must be a mix matched pile of parts that cannot be "fixed" in the traditional sense.
