Helping out a local musician with his Jackson Pro Soloist. He has been complain about a tuning anomaly in how the b & e strings sound. A quick check confirmed his high e saddle is all the way rearward and still sharp by several cents. All the other saddles are nearly in a neat row.

Thing a bad string could cause this??? He claims they are fairly new, but I plan on changing them anyways.

Thoughts???

Almost certainly a bad string. The high E saddle should be the furthest forwards. But you are sure that the 13th fret is not so high that it 's touching the string when you fret 12?

I'm not sure and I will check to be certain. It needs a major tune up for sure...
 
Oh! I posted when I was tired and noticed all my spelling errors.

The high 'e' saddle is all the way forward (towards the nut) and the fretted note @ the 12th is still sharp..

Ok. I posted everything WRONG... LOL

The high 'e' is all the way forward and the fretted note at the 12th is FLAT. I can't move any farther forward. Then I pulled the strings and got another surprise - really odd numbers:

E = .043"

A = .031"

D = .025"

G = .015"

B = .010"

e = .008"

The strange thing is, the guitar felt like it had .011's on it and no sign of rust, brinneling or corrosion. The strings don't look that old. The Floyd Nut looks good. No grooves. No burrs that I can see. Saddles look good too...

I am hoping this is just a bad string. All the other strings are dead-on at the 12th and all are nearly dead-even with the adjacent and all are moved almost all the way forward.

Put new strings on it and try it again.Put the strings on then tune it to pitch,make sure the Floyd sits level,if not adjust the springs till it does after tuning to pitch,once this is done then check intonation again

First thing I did was level the Floyd...Putting strings on later. Found a really strange groove-bump-groove-bump under the locking nut. I flattened this area with an Arkansas Stone wrapped with #400 paper, using the edge of the stone as a "safe edge" that doesn't cut the wood. I also pulled a .015" PAPER shim out from under the nut, which surprised me since the first fret action was almost .075" overall!!!!

I have read where some Floyd's need a Lok-N-Roll compensated nut to dial them in....

It had 3 springs on it with the claws bottomed out. I installed 4 springs in a straight line and the claw was backed out about 1/8" at pitch and parallel to the body...
