Stage 65 (old solid state amp)

I picked up an old Stage 65 solid state amp for 10 bucks at a second hand store down the way and figured I post some info and pics of it for the what ever of it. It's a bruiser. I was shocked it actually fired up and played. The pots are very scratchy and intermittent, so I spray the jacks and pots with DeOxit and set the chassis off to the side. The speaker works well, but was very dirty/dusty, so I cleaned it. However, the poor particle board amp cab has seen better days and the tolex was basically held on by the screws and what not. Not the case can be saved. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to go check it out now. I haven't really looked up anything at this point. I was was just shocked it came on, had normal current draw, and sounded pretty good actually. Not sure what I'll do with the cab. If I can come up with bunch paint for little or nothing I may just soak the cab, let it cure, sand, repeat for now. But, It'd be cool to put it in a nice pine cab - nothing fancy, same cab made out of pine.

That particle board will swell & deteriorate if it gets wet.
Best bet would be scuff off the crud with a wire brush and coat the box with bedliner.
Looks like someone already ripped the vinyl off some time ago.

Bedliner, never used the stuff before, but there's always a first. I ripped the tolex off, it was basically just being held on the screws and what noughts. It was also very brittle for lack of better words.

Wouldn't take much more than a decent length of pine board, which is what I'm leaning toward. Of course, the old cab may get drenched with paint or something until or if I get that far. Got a lowes hardware probably a whole 3 miles from the house that should have the pine board.
 
I went all fancy pants and used 3/4" maple plywood for my cab I built. $75 for a sheet and I still have some left for other projects.

Pine should be good. Easy to work, cheap and better than particle board! Gonna wanna see some build pics!
 
3/4" maple plywood sounds like some nice stuff to use. I'd most likely be using plywood for the speaker baffle, unless I run into a piece of pine I'm not expecting to. I'm getting better at taking pictures and posting them. I read a lot more (without logging in) than I post (and log in).

A pine box will be nice. I have some 3/8" birch ply, I can bring you a piece for the baffle board if we all do lunch next Friday the 18th.
What size do you need? 20" square ought to cover it.
Can get that Tele pickguard at the same time.
 
You know, I should clean up the small rust area's, touch it up a bit, and then clear coat the chassis to kind of seal the patina in - lol (making sure to remove a finish were a ground connection is required). Maybe, sounds like a hassle now I've typed it out loud - see what happens.
 
So, there are many little rust pockets on the chassis that I've been cleaning up some here and there. This morning I started thinking maybe I should just sand the chassis down to the bare metal and repaint it. Not sure what I'd do about all the writing and what-not or if I even want to venture down this path for sure. Maybe I could hand write the labels with an enamel paint pen? I know it's not a big deal either way, but any thoughts? I still haven't got off my butt to go look for pine planks at lowes yet, so not like I'm in a hurry to get it done I guess ;)
