Some might say a pick is a pick.

Well as you know i play a lot , so they get chewed up a bit, once the tip is worn off, i chuck em.
I had/have a couple that I'd been using with my acoustic for... well.... ever. That guitar has always been strung with 12s and 13s. The tips got worn to the point of being almost as round as the fat end of the pick. Found out I actually preferred that over the new pointy ends. I think I still have one of those in my box of picks.

I don't like them when they are right out of the bag. I like them when they still have a pointed tip but they are worn enough that the edges are kind of like a propeller if you know what I mean. Once the tip gets a little rounded they are gone. But I keep loads of them around every place I play and usually a few in the cases so I always have fresh ones.

The rounded worn out ones are the ones that get the pick flick into the crowd.

Well…I didn’t know where I was going to put this, but this thread is proving timely.
I recently received a gift pack of picks from a German company called Rombo. I’ve been using the same picks for decades now, and have never really been motivated to try anything “new”, but I’m trying now.
The first one I chose to try from the gift pack is called “Horizon”. It’s got a good shape and thickness to grip, and is a bit more mellow sounding than my usual 1.14 thick carbon/nylon Pickboy “Reefer” model picks. So far, so good…got comfortable with it right away, and haven’t dropped or spun it yet. Diggin it.

There are a bunch of other models in the box I received. If they’re all like this, I may have a “new” pick maker to buy from…if I live long enough to go through these ;) .

I was really interested in @smitty_p ‘s Dava picks, and thought I might order some to try, but I was informed that I should hold off for a bit…and now I have somewhere around 8 new models of picks (four of each model) to play around with.

One thing I like about the Dava picks is the rubber holding area, but not just for the grip it offers. If you position the pick so you actually pluck with the rubber portion, it completely changes the nature of the attack.

Granted, I only do that on certain occasions, but I really like the flexibility they offer.

The actual plastic portion is nylon, so they last a very long time and never break. I really don't use anything else.

I like typical fender pearloid heavy at 1mm, the W-H white pearloid pick is pretty much that at .96mm. I did one run in the glow pics years ago which are a bit thinner .75 I think and I like those or even slightly thinner for bangin' on the acoustic

I get gifted pics... have bone, stone, horn and wood
(sounds like a song title) of various shapes my box probably like most of you but I'll be danged if I can hear much of any difference between them. I did notice the chirpy difference of a set of acrylic v-pics a distributor guy partial-traded for... years ago... I recall a smallish trans red one with a pointy tip I liked the feel of, the attack for awhile... but I think most of the five he sent me "disappeared" into the ether.
Perfect business model

I"m very sensitive on the tip shape.
It really affects attack.

I like them worn a bit, not too pointy but not too rounded.
I re-shape them with sandpaper as needed, and bevel the edges a bit.

I've been using the Dunlop Gator Grip 1.5mm the last few years.
I put score lines across them with a utility knife to add grippy-ness to them.
It's been so long using the same 6 or so I don't recall how the stock tip feels.
