Post your first real song you learned and played in front of an audience

This is mine; though, this guy is definitely playing it better than I did. I got the notes OK, but I wasn't as smooth as this.

I played it in church on my Gibson SG. I guess that was about 1986.

If I was to try playing it now, I'd have to pretty much start learning it from scratch.

Wow that's really shootin high!!
Let's just say that my teacher did an incredible job back then to just listen to both parts by ear on my tape player/walkman, then he would transcribe my parts on guitar paper bits at a time so I could keep practicing section by section each week till I got it down. For me, it was good to learn a song I could play slowly and perfect each part.

Thanks for joining in the discussion, everyone.

The actual first piece of music was probably when I was in the school orchestra playing violin. It was either Handel's "Water Music" or maybe a Beethoven piece. It wouldn't have been anything from the Ninth Symphony because the conductor would have saved that for near the end of the show. We'd always close with something like "Ode to Joy" or something as equally bombastic.

If you mean guitar, the that's a version of "My Generation" by the Who. I was jamming with some guys at a 4th of July Biker Party when I was 16, and they yelled chords at me, and the guy singing changed all the words to be "My Boozeration." "People try to put us down, just because we like to suck them down." "Got to drink that beer while it's still cold, yeah it's my boozeration!" Good times.

You took lessons. I never did and have paid for that. Learned bad habits. Didn’t learn the more correct way to play. I still enjoy the guitar…. But with lessons and a teacher to hold me accountable. I’d be way better than I am.

I messed up,

I meant 1st song on guitar, since we are primarily a guitar/ bass forum.
Heck, my first songs were on Piano in Elementary school. Big Chief Wig Wam, or Astronaut's Salute.

First song I played in front of people was the bass line to Peace Sells by Megadeth. I remember it vividly because I was so nervous I thought I was going to puke. We played to a packed house of about 20 or 30 people at a bar called Jimmy Ds. My nerves calmed after I noticed mostly everyone there were too drunk to give a crap.

Good riff , for sure.
“What do you mean I can’t be the president of the United States , it’s still we the people right?”

My first concert was all originals.
I remember looking at my fingers and wondering how they were working at all, they felt like big fat bratwursts!

At my second show we played a couple of covers.
Here's the one I remember the most
Singing while playing was difficult, but sooooo fun!

Back to the topic.

Since I got my new V, I figured I would give my old 1st guitar song, Epilogue a shot at dusting off the cobwebs and playing along with the video.
It will take me a little while to perfect it from start to finish. BUT, I am definitely getting more accurate on all the whole and half and 1.5 step pitch bends, hammer ons, etc.

Crazy the rust on a song you haven't played since like 1984-85.
