Pine Body Tele's

One of the first Tele's
Broadcaster/Nocaster

I have to confess, I've never been interested in Telecasters. I've played one only once, and that is only after the local music store clerk nagged me into it (I'm more of a Strat guy when it comes to Fenders). Anyway, that video actually piqued my interest in Teles.

Hmmmm......

me too... I own only one Telecaster, which is a MIM replica of the 1972 Telecaster Deluxe.

I dunno what kind of wood was used to make mine. It might be Ash, it might be Alder,
or it might be whatever kind of skunk wood was cheap near Ensenada in 2006.
Mine might be naughty pine, how would I know? Mine's painted solid black.

Does NOT KNOWING bother me? Not a bit. I bought my MIM Telecaster after playing it in
a music store for more than 30 minutes. It was used, but it had belonged to one of the sales
guys at GC... so I played it, and loved it, and bought it. Mine is painted black. But I bought
it because of its tone and feel.

In general, the Fender (and the Gibson) factory guys would look at the wood of any guitar
being built, and would assign the naughty looking bodies to the paint shack. This includes the
guitars made of more than two pieces of lumber... "Glue 'em up, Cut 'em out, Sand 'em down,
Paint 'em if the seams show... Ship 'em out."

Telecasters rock, no matter what.

Col, I had a number of choices when buying my Tele.
At the time, I only owned 1 Strat I believe. So, I went looking for Tele's at my mom n pop shop.
I saw a beautiful natural ASH American Std he had in there for under $700, or a Trio of Classic Vibes caught my eye over other models like Mexicans, Blacktop, Vintage Modified etc. In the time I tried all of em, I liked my Antique white, 50's Pine bodied one the best despite A5 Magnets in the Sunburst Classic Vibe 50's Custom, and Thinline. I felt good at getting mine for $279 while the Custom and Thinlines were $299. Now these are over $100 more. Mine was a sweet player good sound etc, but after having it home a short while, I noticed erratic pots causing loss of volume while using Tone pot,,,,,,, then I removed the control unit to find they also mis- drilled one of the holes as it barely caught wood to barely secure it in the body. Anyway, I took it back and told the store owner I wanted to return for warranty and swap it for the other one he had hanging up.
Now this replacement one is my Gold Standard of Tele's. Even my blind friend liked it better than my original one for playing and sound. Good result, I would say.

The guitar player was a no show I only had one guitar a 1961 Les Paul SG Lee let me use his 1953 No/caster amp used 1966 Pro Reverb and a Fender Twin billy Zoom modified for the solo
Day one went great Day two Howard Dumble plugged me into a ODS-100 and recorded the solo Philip Bailey called me up and said the solo sucked so the next day I rerecorded the solo
using the Twin first take they cut the solo in 1/2 on the mix down. Funny I passed the Dumble audition I thought the amp sounded like A$$

Back in 1978 I would play anything for money so don't be cruel

Smitty, I first had Tele's catch my eye/ear when Pete Townshend was playing Schecter Tele's in the early 80's.
I have a distinct personal flaw. I like almost all guitar types.

I was watching sports today and during a break they played a Pretenders song. It reminded me, not only did I like Tele's from Pete, but during that same time, Chrissy Hynde and Joe Strummer.

SO I will put one of my favorite demo's of the Pine Bodied Alnico 3 Pupp'd Tele I got and a second one with unique song style by the same player.
The newer Butterscotch ones are A5 magnets.
