No High Wattage Amps For Me

Just saying, I am quite comfortable with using my 35 watt, 15 watt and 3 watt amps. More than enough crunch and output that i need. My 35RT Orange Crush will even keep up to drums in practice.
There's more than just crunch and output volume to having the "thump" of big iron.
My 50w split channel 800 has a noticeably richer tone than my 15w Haze at equal volume.
Not that I don't like them both - and they sound incredible in stereo... :yesway:

35w is no slouch btw, and a decent circuit 3w can be plenty loud and sound great through some good speakers.
To me, it's the little $#!+ speakers that are usually paired with low watt amps that make them sound like toys.

That being said, my favorite amps may be the Origin20 duo.

We got this little OR30 and run it on the 15 watt setting; it's plenty loud.
We got this Origin 50 (which is really 32 watts), my friend says it's too loud and we dropped it down to 90 volts with a Variac.
I measured 15 watts running on the variac.

32w? - interesting...
I run my O50 through a Weber Mass to just tame it a bit and get more control on the volume knob.
Paired with my Ceriatone JTM45 (35w) through a John H on base -7dB.

I used a 1966 Fender Pro Reverb with a 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb the Pro for cleans and the Deluxe for leads
We had a gig 20.000 square foot club for 3 years used a pair of 85 watt Black Face Twin Reverb amps 1965 and 1967
I lost count of the Marshall amps the best sounding were 1968 Super Lead 100 and Black Flag 50 watt 1967
When I was offered crazy money for my vintage amps sold surprised the country artiest were buying vintage Marshall's
Then a Trainwreck Express and Trainwreck Rocket Marshall 4 x 12 with a stereo switch running 2 green back 25's per side with channel switching

The next step was Dumble amps started with 100 watt then went to 50 watt that's the last 16 years
Funny out of the 50+ amps I still own practice unplugged.

Just because, I built a Marshall Super100JH clone. Never got it above 2. Probably never will. But it was a fun build to do. Nicknamed it "Purple Haze".

Are you happy with the tone ? What music or songs?
I think I get great tone from all my amps, but I may have no idea what I'm doing.
Mostly attempt to play heavy side of classic rock stuff - Zep, Rush, BOC, AC/DC, Foghat, etc., and perhaps a touch of hair metal (I grew up in the '80's...).
The gear I have probably far surpasses my ability to use it correctly, but I have a good time trying.
IMO, I've found some good pairings of amps, tubes, speakers and pedals to get just about anything I'm going for.

Yeah, it's one of those unavoidable truths. Big iron and big bottles just move air with more authority than lower-powered amps, even at the same volume level.
I have been using a 25-watt amp for the last buch of years, and the only thing I miss is the pants-flapping ability of a bigger amp. If we ever move into a single family home again (condo at the moment) the first piece of furniture is going to be a chest-pumping amp.

I also wish I had the space to open up a tube amp .
