Announcing... RiffMasters!

Perhaps you thought this was gonna be about Paul, Gene Ace and Petey? Sorry fellas, LOL! Nope!
Might be fun, but I don't think it would be much challenge at all for most of you. Rest assured the Love Gun boys *could* maybe show up in the next ten challenges somewhere.

Some of the best pop music of the 20th century came out of Detroit from a label that plain exploded, responsible for creating a whole new modern music sound. This don’t happen often! Love him or hate him, one Berry Gordy Jr. founded the Tamla Label, renaming it “Motown Records” a year later in 1960.
Basically he was able to fire up a hit-single factory, and launch the careers of many a monster talent.

As an entity owned by an African American, Gordy’s Motown label played a very important role in the racial integration of popular music. and unprecedented crossover success. Motown and its subsidiary labels gained massive sales and creative success managing to merge R&B soul with pop sensibilities earning radio airplay and wide market appeal. During the 1960s, lovers of popular music boosted 79 singles recorded by Motown artists in the Billboard Hot 100 Top Ten. And the music didn't slow down much in the 70's either after the label was moved to be based in California.

Your mission is to do a bit of a dive and create your own Motown-style cut, baby. Perhaps you wanna cover a classic favourite, or maybe you got enough soul deep inside waiting to create your own new smoov groove.

We don’t need lyrics, but if you're feelin' it, why not?

What we do need is minimum 1 minute of a believable motown-style soundscape submitted to this thread to earn an automatic FOUR points.

One bonus point for new original lyrics to original Motown style track (can be submitted in text only if you like).
One bonus point if you cover a classic and sing it too.
Two extra points for your original lyrics laid down on your fresh original track in a vocal styling.

Personally I got about as much soul as store checkout divider stick. I’m practically white as chalk. But, perhaps maybe I can work up a bit of a groove and make some sweet soul music? Time permitting, I'm gonna try, and you should too!

Let’s get it ON!

Thank GOD it's not about Paul, Gene Ace and Petey...

Walking The Line (Round 9 Side Hustle 'Motown Showdown')

(guest vocals by Rey and The Churls)

Walking the line this late summer evening
somewhere between feelin' sweet and lookin' so fine
Now you might only be in it for your own good time this late summer evening
but you ain't gonna stop me from gettin' mine
Short denim mini, tight top, and sky-high heels
i'm gatherin' looks, i'm gettin' those feels
Alla y'all vibin', ain't frontin', for real
so take care of business and let's close this deal, sugar

Cherry red lips and mile-long eyelashes
a slight hint of blush, eyeshadow dark as grey ashes
She's sendin' out messages like Morse Code, it's all dots n' dashes
And we're gonna do it 'til one of us crashes

This is coming more from the somewhat heavier 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone'/'What's Goin' On' side of Motown
than the pop stuff like 'You Can't Hurry Love' (with a bit of the Stax/Atlantic thing thrown in for good measure) ...

@TVvoodoo ROUND 9 SIDEHUSTLE

This is my original Motown style tune, ALWAYS.

ALWAYS

Girl,
You always look so fine.
And girl,
You're always on my mind.

Everything that you say,
The things you do,
Makes me want to stay,
Want to stay with YOU
Oh, it's okay,
I am no fool
You know I pray,
That you'll say "I do".

Girl, my girl,
You make me feel so right,
In the heat of the night,
Girl, my girl, my girl
No one makes me feel the way you do,
I know you feel it too.

Everything that you say,
Everything you do,
Makes Me want to stay,
Want to stay with YOU
Oh, it's okay,
I am no fool
You know I pray,
That you'll say "I do",
It's true.

It's no lie now,

I show you all the time how,

You know I do,

The way I love you,

You see it in my eyes,

I tell you no lies,

I see it in you too,

You love me through and through,

You always look so fine,

You're always on my mind,
You're always on my mind,
You're always on my mind.

Everything that you say,
Everything you do,
Makes Me want to stay,
Want to stay with YOU
Oh, it's okay,
I am no fool
You know I pray,
That you'll say "I do",
It's You.

Very cool!
Great Motown vibe, and ibmorjamn's dancing green skeletons are perfectly in time, too!
THANKS, @frostyjr2 !
I did the vox all 1st takes on an old EV, with a fan going in the background, singing very low because everyone was home, sleeping. The thought was to get some scratch vox down so I can remember the melody and harmonies and then use my 220 at a later time. (If you were wondering why the vox quality was so poor, lol)

Well , I didn’t listen on headphones yet . I didn’t notice in lower vocal quality vocals but the song is great.
I am wishing I had a decent sounding voice.
