My next project...LP Tribute - take two

I thought I had kept the original PCB wiring harness this guitar came with, but I can't find it so I'm looking to get another one. One thing about this guitar is it's cursed, I've rewired it at least 5 times that I can remember and something always fails. I just want to put the PCB harness back. Hoping someone has one they don't need because I can't find one that isn't already sold. :fingersx:

I might have one, I’ll look when I get home.

I checked the frets on this guitar and found the 9th fret is really high. I don't know if I've ever checked them before so that's probably the reason I've always fought with this guitar. I suspect it's been like this for a very long time because it would explain a lot. There are also a couple of other high frets further down, but they are not as bad as the 9th. I'm definitely going to have it refretted with some 6100s and I'm going to tell him to glue the f'kers in!

I don't even know now if I want to mess with the finish anymore, I do like it like as it is, right now I just want to get it up and running again. The reason I want to put a PCB back in this is because I want to put the 490s in it that are in my other tribute and I don't want to cut the quick connects off. It needs to be completely rewired anyway so I'd just rather put the PCB back. Then I'm going to put the Bare Knuckle pickups I just bought in my other Tribute and I'm selling my Standard. I grab my Tribute most of the time anyway, the only reason I ever play my Standard is I feel obligated to just because I have it. I don't need it and I could use the money.

Well after much consideration I've decided to just leave the guitar as it is and put it back together, my heart's just not in it to redo the finish again and I can't decide on what to do. It looks good, I just need to make it sound good. I've addressed the high fret, I have a complete PCB (with switch and jack included) on the way to put it back the way it was originally and hopefully resolve my wiring issues. I have pickups with quick connects and I ordered a new set of black Grover tuners to replace the ones I stole off of it to use on my Melody Maker. Parts should roll in in the next day or 2. I'm really looking forward to getting her up and running again! :yesway:

I'm very disappointed. This was a complete waste of time and money. I got it all put together and strung up and as soon as I started to play I hated it.

I was really hoping the issue was with the wiring and the high fret I found, but it's more than that. I tried, I really did, but I don't know what else to do so I'm done trying to polish a turd. This guitar is just a dog and it's going bye bye. I'm so glad I decided not to redo the finish, I would have been pissed if I did all that only to hate to play it.

/thread.

I'm putting the 490s back in my 2021 Tribute, the zebra 61s are going in my Standard and I'm going to hang on to for now.

Sorry to here that Steve. I always like the look you gave it but that has little to do with how it plays of course.
The one good thing is I suppose you made a decision .

No big deal really. I'm used to being disappointed with this guitar so I'm not surprised, but I am officially done with it.

I'm probably going to strip all the parts from it and throw it in the dumpster. I wouldn't feel right about trying to sell it. I've had it 11 years, I figure I gotten my moneys worth out of it.

You could donate it to Goodwill.

If I was going to do something like that I'd rather donate it to a school or something. A couple of years ago, when I first came to terms with the fact that it wasn't going to work for me I tried to contact "Guitars for Vets" to donate it, but no one ever answered my email. I guess they're only interested in cash donations.

Put it out on Craig's List all stripped down.
Might get a couple bucks from someone looking for a project...
Honestly, I couldn't take anything for it knowing what I know.. It's not right and I don't believe it ever will be. It's lifeless and dark. You know I love those 490s, but when I put them in this guitar they sounded like total crap. That's for sure the guitar, not the pickups.
