Edit: please see post #34 before you post based on only the OP. I've found a better way to describe more specifically what I'm thinking.
Several years ago I sanded the finish off my 2013 Tribute because I was sick of looking at the dark burst finish, I'd started to dislike it then one day I decided I hated it and off it went. Don't tell me how you think it looked great to begin with, I still hate it and I never regretted sanding it off.
I tried to do a stain on it but it was all blotchy and horrible so I sanded it all back down and just did a neutral finish on it, blacked out all the hardware and played it like this for many years.
Well, I bought a couple of other LPs in the last couple of years and this one took a back seat. So much so that since I wasn't playing it anymore I stripped it all down, pickups and hardware, and put it aside.
Lately I've been bored and I've been looking for a project. I've already been down the partscaster build road and I'm over it, but I need something to do so I want to do something with this.
Here it is as it sits now.
I'm thinking about several possibilities. I think I want to paint it, maybe the whole thing but I'm thinking just the body, or maybe just the top. The mahogany neck has some cool flame action going on and has a great feel with the Tru-oil finish so I want to leave it be. I tried to get a good pic, but it's hard to get it. It's flame all the way down the neck and the back of the headstock...really cool! I've thought about doing a faux binding on the top and maybe some kind of artwork, or maybe just a solid color. I'm not sure yet. I'm open to suggestions.
I've also thought about trying active pickups in it, I've never had actives, I don't even think I've ever played them, but I've been curious for a long time. I also am thinking about maybe filling in the neck route and plugging a couple of holes making it a single bridge pickup guitar, that would also be cool.
I don't know, I'm still in the planning stage right now. Feel free to offer your 2 cents, even if you're just goofing.
