Announcing... RiffMasters!

I looked that Gizmotron up.Quiet the contraption .
Lol, you don't know the half of it. It was NOT as hard to install as the guy from the company made it sound, however, the setup, now THAT was another story. It arrived finally on Tuesday, 26th. and I spent the rest of the day and night and day and night installing, adjusting, learning, using. In the end, I mostly used the bow as it sounds the most authentic, but I wouldn't have been able to do all of it that way, short of removing strings.

Funny thing is, the guy tells me it's hard to install on a Les Paul, yet the guitar in the instalation diagram IS a Les Paul, lol

Damn, I've missed so much working on this guitar, Eleanor Rigby, and visiting a dearest friend in hospice. I haven't had a second to do much of anything else. I hope all is well with everyone. This song was most difficult to work on, not just musically, but emotionally as well as that dearest friend of mine, Nene, just passed the night before last. She was one of my best friends.
My deeply sincere condolences for your loss - while relationships can be somewhat fleeting & fickle in this day and age, your words reveal how especially important Nene was to you. When a super close friend passes on, it's really like losing 3 people - because that one person has such an enormous impact on your life.
Our hearts break for you, and it's easy to say that time heals all wounds. But some people are a such a force of nature - and simply irreplaceable and unforgettable. Perhaps take solice in the idea that Nene might want you to honor her by living a happy and peaceful life without harboring long-term sorrow that could adversely impact your own future.

Also - Excellent work on the song!

That is most appreciated!!! She would ABSOLUTELY want that. I lost my mom to Chemo when I was only 8. She was only 29. To see my dear, vibrant, active, loving friend like that so many years later, when I have a much better grasp on such things could be devastating. I am grateful she is no longer suffering and I take solace in the hopes we will see one another again, across the great divide.

On that note, I will leave this here, a song I composed for my mom:

YOU'RE ALIVE

I recall your warm breath in my shoulder,
As you wipe the teardrops from my face.
Now you're long gone and I'm much older,
And my world is cold and out of place.

You point me in the right direction,
From across the great divide.
You quell my whim for insurrection,
Pacify my propensity to hide.

You're alive, YOU'RE ALIVE, you're alive.

As the days go by I grow much stronger,
And the empty spaces fill inside. Pain and suffering no longer.
I no longer feel the need to hide.

You're alive, YOU'RE ALIVE, you're alive.
You're alive, YOU'RE ALIVE, you're alive.

After the sunshine has gone and left me alone,
After the sunshine has gone and left me alone,
After the sunshine has gone and left me alone,... 2x

I recorded it from one cassette player to another and back, and again, guitar, vox and fretless bass, YEARS ago. It's like an Elliot Smith style tune. Well, my version of one.

Speaking of being pointed in the right direction,... Might someone tell me if there are side quests I'm missing out on? I could use the distraction for one, and my shop is temporarily closed for the holidays, (my dining room table).

What is the Deth-Drop Challenge?
Guitar Duel: (1 pt. for most, 16/8 for Clockwork vs Mitch)
"Deth Drop" minimum 1:00 Riff of Dark Scary Evilness, down-tuned guitar
(you may combine this with your 60's #1 cover, Moar Cowbell, or both!)

3. "Moar Cowbell" Min. 1:00 (1-5 pts.)
1 pt. cowbell solo, or to a playalong
2 pts. Moar cowbell to your drums and original rockin' guitar riff
3 pts. Same as above, adding a funkyass/groovin'/rock bassline
4 pts All of the above, but we also need video of you conkin' that bell and singing some lyrics
5 pts. Virtuoso Mode: You, on vid, conkin; that bell artistically and enthusiastically,
to a TOTALLY non-cowbell type of song of your choice

when's the deadline for deth drop? I've been workin' on a Slayer-esk tune, drop D, with a little Metallica/Anthrax-esk soloing too. Almost done. Trying to master the solos my brain can come up with but my fingers and brain can't remember.

Don't quote me but I think you have until the night of the deadline. I think it's Tuesday.
I have been looking for the post on it for the official rule.
Maybe @TVvoodoo will post the official rule.

Fellas, sorry for the disconnect - had family stuff and obligations, work etc. Sigh. I thought maybe
you fellas could go on autopilot and spur each other on. Instead, seems like you guys just wander around
bumping into each other mumbling about stuff. Much like the care home my father-in-law is now residing in.

The official rules of the Round 4 main event are here: Main Event #4 "60's Cover"
The official rules of the Round 4 "Moar Cowbell" side hustle are here: Moar Cowbell rules
The official rules of the other Round 4 Guitar Duel, (worth a single point for anyone who dares to attempt)
are simple. Drop tune your guitar and brew up an original riff of the sort that's bound to scare small
children or make your TTR brothers worry about what your other hobbies could be. DARK and EVIL. Min. 1:00

NOTE : there is a bookmark function all TTR members have to bookmark important posts. Find the bookmark symbol in
the top right corner of every post. Use it for the ones you want to mark and label it whenever there is a new challenge post.
Very helpful! You can save/delete them at will. Super handy for quick reference.

I'm not really sure where everyone right now, at because I need to go through the list of what might have dropped when I had
to take care of personal stuff. I do recall hearing the Eleanor Rigby cover @Ku² performed, pretty much flawlessly by the way.
I was hoping he was going to darken/evil it up a bit as per the challenge asked, but instead he went with a rather faithful recreation
of the original, quite masterfully, I have to agree. Taking the time to learn new skills for such a thing does deserve our notice,
and putting that production together had to have been quite a feat, never mind the performances, singing/harmonies, the bow work etc.

The deadline for the Round 4 Main event is 7PM This coming Tuesday,
so this is the last weekend prior to deadline, so this is your priority if you
have not submitted your 60's #1 cover yet. Again, NO obligation and the
competition is stiff! But... there's five points for participation, minimum baby!

You can still get your "Deth Drop" or "Moar Cowbell" in before the end of the vote which would be 7pm Thursday.
The points for moar cowbell vary depending on how you attack the challenge, you can get 1-5 points, depending.

Guys, I had to step a way for a bit, but I'm back. I still need to do my own Moar Cowbell challenge, probably this weekend.
I'm not feeling I can leave any points on the table to fall away unclaimed. It's gonna to be a hard-scrabble climb to
the upper numbers from here. At challenge 5, I'm wondering if anybody will have reached halfway to 100, at 50 points.
I believe only two are within striking distance of that next RiffMasters level, past "Sideman" after this vote.

I have also planned out a rather titillating Main Event #5 reveal coming in less than a week, and at least one side hustle.
We'll also likely enjoy a guitar challenge between forum chieftain @Mitch Pearrow SJMP and new warrior @Aynirar27 which
should provide compelling entertainment. Young, strong ambitious buck vs experienced, wise and toughened buck

RiffMasters may have had a lull, but it's stamina, smarts and the long game here that really matters.
Are you in it to win it?
