Announcing... RiffMasters!

OK see attached. Nothing too special... maybe the delays on the leads make it sound like more than it is.
The underlying rhythm is hard left and right (in mono), the 2 stereo lead tracks in the last 20 seconds are panned about 15% inwards from each side.
One thing about my guitar recording lately is printing tones and effects "as is", not worrying about fiddling later. Which defies modern recording logic... but I think having too many choices might prevent accomplishing anything.
I tell you what, when I first heard the beginning of the song I thought Ozzy just came out of retirement. Lol

C-Grin blows the doors of both TVvoodoo and Thatbastarddon, with a turbo boost to his scoring position with his Wonky Djonk Woman submission!!! And, it's going to be worth minimum 5 points more later on, if not seven or more, HOLY CROW!!!

Grin is dangerously encroaching the allowed minimum personal space distance of Clockwork Mike, both of them surely now enjoying a heady whiff of the dank, musky aromas emanating from the sky
high bachelor penthouse pad where KuKucabra and Bachelorarian Bart are sequestered (and ordering
a lot of strange, interesting Door Dash, so we are told).

Ibormjamn, Sapient, BFT and RVM are battling to see who's gonna to break out of the middle pack next to challenge the top five. Jethro and Jtcnj seem to be fading, the question now is, which of those two
fellas will challenge the mighty Mitch, (rhymes with itch) in the Chapter 5 guitar duel? You know they want, they need, they CRAVE the points, but who in their right mind would dare risk going up against RiffMaster Mitch, AKA "The MitchMaster", who's probably NOT too into losing TWO duels in a row.

Danger, threats, drama, risk all part of the RiffMasters Chapter 4 stage so far!
Add the intense pressure of a deadline ticking down steadily, and the fact hardly ANY of the above named have completed the main "#1 60's hit" submission for Round 4. Some haven't even completed ANY of the challenges. We know one thing for sure... if the work goes in, the score goes up. That's for REALZ baby!

However, I am now second-guessing my points structure planning done prior to the start of the game. Did I add too many points in the duels? Will the elites, trying desperately to place repeatedly in the higher points areas via community votes be able to win enough challenges to fend off the massive boosts earned by the rock and roll warrior/survivors down in the musical dog-eat-dog cage match ring?

Do I even have enough points available in the game for somebody to bank up 100 over ten rounds? I thought we'd have somebody in the low 40's by now, but let's see how it plays out. Might have to add an extra challenge or two.

And the biggest question of all... it seems highly likely RiffMaster Mitch will duel again soon. Oh Joy!!!! But who? Who..?. WHO? Is he hoping to take back to rock and roll high school, and how hard will those lessons be?

Ah, that's all still weeks ahead... just fun speculatin' about it now

For now, lets see and hear some of you guys bring us MOAR COWBELL, some Downtuned Darkness, and that juiced up 60's #1 hit, thats going to go up fir a vote coming in April.

Hey, thanks! This Mesa/Engl tone for recording is new to me, I'm more if a Marshall-tone guy for many decades. If you saw how I'm recording this, you'd laugh.
  • My computer is Win 7 from 2010
  • Reference monitors: IBM-branded computer speakers from 1996 (I think made by Infinity). The internal amp that powered them died 10 years back.... so I'd stuffed a different one inside from some other computer speakers.
  • Chevrolet-branded headphones made by Koss I got for 4 bucks at a liquidation outlet
  • My Line 6 Pod XT Pro I just bought 2 months ago: these came out in 2004. I got it with the floor foot controller for a price so low I should have been arrested. They guy was liquidating his studio for an urgent move to Holland. I paid him what he was asking; I opened my wallet with a creaking sound, and after some dead spiders fell out, I gingerly handed over some vintage tattered bills. In passing he gave me whole bunch of other gear too as a bonus. So a little later that night I'm lugging 20-30 pounds of gear and wires about a mile in -20 degrees to the train station.
Simply... cheesy as hell... (now I don't know if there's cheese in hell, but if there is, that would make it much more tolerable, unless it's spray cheese)

Well you deserve a reward for doing that recording the most ancient gear on here . Lol
I don't care what you used it sounds amazing. I assume that's mostly technique more than anything.
When I commented about Ozzy coming out of retirement. It's a compliment because it sounded that good.

I should sell my gear and buy a ATV. Lol
I have a 100 questions about technique but you probably don't have that kind of time.

That's a good point, I've been playing a long time, and over 1,000 shows so that's a factor.
One thing: in early 90's I worked in some music stores, and players would come in (who performed in clubs on the road full-time) to buy guitar strings and look at gear since they had the whole day off.
I noticed how they would adapt to any gear they were jamming on in the store, and they always sounded good, even through the worst stuff. There were no excuses.
Around 1994 I went on the road myself and caught the tail end of being able to play for my living in cover bands. Sometimes 6 nights a week. Then the industry went to 4 nights.. then 3 nights... then 2 nights... did lots of weddings and corporate events too.
I have a 100 questions about technique but you probably don't have that kind of time.

The live playing must help a lot.
I don't have enough years ahead me now to gain that live show experience.
I enjoyed and did so many things , even gave up guitar for several years to pursue my racing passion back then.

RVM, i think the key to great tone is the eclectic vintage equipment, like the Win7 boxes, your XT and the Chevy cans. I also am running the Win7, an RP1000 circa 2008, and send it all through the once familiar old steel box Minimus 7's from ratshack. You can definitely hear the vintage toanz difference that comes from a bunch of outdated junk just cobbled together, like was standard procedure way back in the olden times.

These are tones the Helixs and the kempers and the Axe FX kits can't get no matter how many boutique IR packs they shell out for :pound-hand:

The Line 6 POD XT PRO is older but it has lineage of the Stomp. I have never used one but I had the XT (bean) I still have it somewhere. The Stomp does so much more I would never go back. It's a Cadillac. Lol

:LOL: @Randy Van Malmsteen my Sweetwater Personal Assistant / Virtual Gear Tech has hinted to me several times that great skill and talent such as my own is what truly fuels the music gear industry. He's an insider, so he would know for sure

Also, I guess I should apologize a little for showing off. I know not everyone can afford this kind of sweet-ass vintage gear.
