What Was The Very First Song, You Could Play On Your Guitar, All The Way Through

7th grade my first year in the public fool school system took a guitar class first song was House of the Rising Sun
Next to me in class was Eddie Hall Jimmi Hendrix Cousin years later Eddie invited me to play with his band when I was in town
funny Al Hendrix called me his white son.

I've been thinking an thinking about this and I can't remember. It was probably Amazing Grace or some other church song because my grandmother was a church pianist and she taught me my first chords. I do know that the first song I learned to play all the way thru on electric guitar was The cult- Lil' Devil. Not the lead though, I still can't play that part. In fact I think the only leads I can play even now is the lead to The one I love by REM and Social Distortion born to lose. I'm not a lead player...yet.

There are probably several I could do if I buckled down and really wanted to learn them, I just haven't ever been into playing lead so it's still a bit of a mystery for me. Now in my old age I find myself noodling on scales more than banging out boring chords. I'm finally starting to get the concept, but I need to get set up with a way to play songs or backing tracks and jam along, that's when it'll start to come. I need to get my computer, stereo and amp all set up in the same place instead of all spread out like it is, I can't even jam along with anything right now.

Sedated is an open high E string. 8th notes.
Repeat!
:p

I always tinkered with songs and never had the patience to play through them all ..like to a radio or something like a lot of people did. Dee was after a few years in and really the only one I think I learned and played all the way though at that time. Thanks 'thro!
I am similar in that I never had the patience either to completly learn them. Same like Jethro Rocker like in Riffmasters I learned Strutter back in the day. Never learned all of it.

To be honest with you I've always focused on lead improve. When I got in a couple bands is when I had to learn songs.

I don't see the point in playing rock songs (other than just maybe the main riff) all the way through with no band. I'd fall asleep, personally. Lol.

I agree but it seems to be some sort of yardstick to measure your knowledge by . That and people go to bars and clubs only want to hear famous music in general.
