Soliciting opinions. Should I or shouldn't I?

Well…my 2 cents….

Minor surgery…completely reversible…love mine. The one that I have setup to float is on a P90 SG. It’s an absolute joy to play with, and is super stable with tuning.

As for the pickups….P90 sized humbuckers, or maybe some mini-humbuckers….f you really can’t get on with anything “P90” out there.
Hey do these dive well as in slack low E string??

They’re not like a Floyd in that respect, but the low strings bottom out pretty well…
What do you mean “pretty well” you bastard?!?
I mean; The EA&D drop to the bottom of their “useful slackness” when diving full bore. Like…playing Pink Floyd “Sorrow”(I was goofing with that tonight…I’m a hack with it, but I drop the A into the edge of oblivion, and then drag the low E up from the abyss)…They drop to “almost completely flaccid noodles”. The lower the pitch of string, the closer to useless they get when you approach the bottom of a dive. The E definitely gets there with ease. Makes a great “start the beastly engine” growling sound. Basically, when decked, the strings still produce a pitch…the low strings get all kinds of floppy, but don’t go “full slack” and grab the pickup poles…The low E comes close though.

Perfect. I see they make piezo bridges and one can get a Graph Tech acoustic preamp. Hmmm

While not a Floyd or anything that fancy. One thought I had with the Tele project I have going was piezo saddles. Let me switch between normal pickups and the piezo for an additional option. Alex Lifeson has at least one LP or PRS set up that way. I’m sure others do as well.

This is what I was going to say.

Gball,

I know this is a side trip from your particular question, but since it involves our beloved Lesters, I was telling Mitch about a clip I watched of Page and Plant,

In Jimmy's one LP, I think it was a burst at 39:55+ he has the covered pup in the neck, and black uncovered in the bridge. The clip is from '95.
Any chance that you might know his pup he was using?

Tough to know for sure. The orginal pickup failed some time in the early '70s and was replaced with a T-Top. So yeah, most of Page's classic tones are from a T-Top, not a PAF. But who knows for sure after that? I have read that eventually he put "something" else in there and In the photos from the Met exhibit it is clearly not a T-Top.

Yeah, but not for a long time, but yeah on the first SG I ever owned. The only time I actually needed a vibrato was in the '80s, and for that I used a BC Rich STIII with a Floyd to do the cheese-metal divebombs. After that It's been Les Pauls and blocked Strats.

It's just that in the past I don't recall you sounding too fond of a Bigsby. Of course, that's not to say you can't change! It just caught my attention.

Should I or shouldn't I?

So here's the question: At present I do not own a guitar with a wang bar on it. Since I am already planning to soil this thing with some 'buckers, I am also thinking of putting on an ABR bridge (using conversion posts) and a Bigsby B-5,so I would have at least one guitar with a wiggle-stick.
I've lost track.
Did you or didn't you?

Right. They are the ugliest things in the world and don't work all that well. But they are kind of appropriate for a Special and I don't really use the bar very often, just for occasional grins (much like a slide). I'm honestly trying to give myself reasons to pick this guitar up because for the most part it is just taking up space. I always play one of the carved top/humbucker ones.

Pickup yes. Still waffling on the vibrato.

Aesthetics are a personal thing, I dig the Bigs how they look and how they work. Which if you set them up for proper use they do work. Here nor there whatever you choose I am sure it will be awesome.

Awrite, finally got around to plopping this DiMarzio Tone Zone into the Special. Night and day difference - I can actually use this guitar now, and the pickup plays incredibly well with the neck P-90, making it a really versatile setup (I did always kind of like the tone of the neck pickup, hated the sound of the bridge P-90). Anyway, can recommend if anyone is considering it. Here's the obligatory photo...

And yes, I took the absurd toddler-sized white button tuners off and replaced them with some adult-oriented ones (Revolutions).
