So Anyway...

That was my story too back in 77, I couldn’t afford a Martin. I was playing with 2 other guys at the time in our living rooms. One had a 12 string Martin and the other had a 12 Ovation.

While researching Martins this year I had my eye on a 72 and a 74 D-28. What little I read, the 70s were not a good time for Martins. Some claimed that the bridge/saddles were off a little and made intonation almost impossible. I don’t know if that’s true or not but it kept me from buying an older one sight unseen (or played).
While speaking on Martin guitars. Was in a Davenport IA music store back early 80’s…. I think. Was noodling around on some $1500-1800 Martins, which was a lot of Jack for this broke boy. So there was zero intention to buy. But while there, salesman came over and mentioned me liking Martins. Took me back to another room and handed me one to try. They had just had one of those Martin weekends where they have reps and special guitars and accessories on display. Workshops. Well…. The guitar he handed me had bling on top of bling. Thing was gorgeous. AND was a $10,000 guitar. AND didn’t sound a penny better than the $1500 one I’d just been playing. But man… was it cool to play something that expensive. Even if only for a few minutes before I set it carefully back in the case, trying real hard not to drool on it.

My first nice acoustic was actually a lower priced Martin. I was at Retro Music and asked Doogle what guitar was a sleeper, and has gone unnoticed by everyone. He handed me a '95 D-16T. It played great and was only $900.00. I bought it. Since the electronics didn't work, I went back to Retro and bought a Taylor AD17e. I wanted something that I could plug into a PA or amp. As well, I got a good deal on it, as I was also buying an old arch top. Along with my Dobro, which actually is still a bit of work to play, I have four nice acoustics. I think I'm all set for now. I did play one of those lawsuit Takamine acoustics while in Liverpool, and they are nice.

I should get a nice group photo someday. The Martin is the one I have been playing a lot lately.

Ahhhh.... The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! A double Storrowing on Storrow Drive in Boston this morning!

:pound-hand::pound-hand:

For those of you who are not familiar with Boston, it's ways, and it's vernacular, I will fill you in. Storrow Drive is the "Pleasure Road" along the Charles River in Boston. It is intended for cars only, and it's bridges were intentionally left low to keep trucks off of it. But, this doesn't stop all the new students every September to drive their moving vans on Storrow Drive, only to get the stuck under a bridge, hence being "Storrowed."

Today, two trucks at the same time, one being a City of Boston trash truck got jammed. I can only imaging the horror show this created during this morning's commute.

:pound-hand::pound-hand::pound-hand:

I can't stop laughing.

Thankfully, it wasn’t yesterday….I was there, for the morning, yesterday…that woulda sucked wicked bad.

So anyway...It's coming up on the anniversary of my dads passing soon (Jan 8th) and I'm doing fine, but I have a soft spot for my mother and she's very emotional and I don't know what to say to her. When he passed we 3 lived in TN, but my mom has since moved to Florida to live with my younger brother and his family. That's all great with me, but I'm the firstborn and she really relies on me to be there for her, she's having a really hard time and I'm 650 miles away now and feeling disconnected. I didn't have a good relationship with my dad except for the last few years of his life, everything before that was strained to say the least and I'll leave it at that. I can't relate to the way she feels, they were married all their adult life so she doesn't know anything else and she's an emotional person anyway. I don't know what to do for her other than be there, but I'm not there so I don't know what to do and it's bothering me big time.

Anyway, I said all that to say... If I post anything that seems out of character, this is what's bothering me. It already happened tonight, hopefully I fixed it before any damage was done, but I know that at least 2 people saw it and I hope that they (and anyone else that saw it) sees this. I'll try and not let it happen again.

A couple of Fridays ago, my son and I tried to meet up with one of my brothers, but he got there late. We were packed in about 12 rows of people from the stage. We met up after to chat a bit.

Zakk Sabbath, and the opener I can't recall the name was very interesting. They play what they call Thrash-Grass, featuring a lot of banjo.

It was fun.
The song covers were done really well, with some added (I thought too much) Zakk soloing.

So anyways with WWE Monday Night RAW moving to Netflix next year... just cant do it, will not pay to watch a show once a week but man Monday night ever since it started always on TV ..

So anyway, just killing a little time and then heading to Gloucester. There 's a new club called The Cut. Tonight, Vapors of Morphine are playing. Dana Colley who is the last surviving member of the original band Morphine, is playing with the Morphine tribute that has been around the past fifteen years, or so. Can't wait, as I've heard nothing but good things about this new venue, and it's only about 20 minutes away.
