I literally haven't played my acoustic in about 6 years. I really need to dust it off and put some new strings on it. There' really is no excuse for this kind of neglect. I'm ashamed...

Now that I actually own nice acoustic guitars, it is a real pleasure to play them. When I had cheap, crappy acoustics they went longer than six years at a whack without being played.

You nailed it, I've never spent more than $300 for an acoustic. After I sell a few things my next great adventure is going to be buying a really nice acoustic. I miss playing acoustic, it was my first love and the reason I started playing guitar in the first place. I didn't play my first electric until about 5 or 6 years after I started out on acoustic. Then I got caught up in the tone chase and all these years later I finally got that and I'm feeling like it's time to go back to the basics.

I have a ruptured eardrum, and I was told by the doctor to not subject myself to loud noise for a while. Not without headphones to block it.I have a very good Takamine acoustic electric.

Ever notice how much better you are when you play the electric again after playing an Acoustic properly. Much more discipline required it seems.
I played acoustic only for nearly 40 years before getting my first electric. It was almost like having to learn a new instrument.
My very first guitar was an acoustic 12 string Yamaha I spent less than 200 bucks on in 1973. Year later bought my Ovation. It was $650. That was the most spent on a new guitar till the new blue Strat I got a few years ago.
Still love acoustic guitar Norm. Kinda like that first girlfriend way back in HS. That first "love" is always special.
In fact. After I get it restrung here in the next day or two, thinking I'm planning on wearing out (or building up) those finger callouses. Got a song meant for electric that I'm going to do on acoustic. I might even have to share it and bring some culture to this place.

The finger strength & technique you build up on accoustic is so good. Gain can cover a multitude of sins lol
Exactly. For me one helps me play the other. Playing electric has taught me a lighter touch on the strings. Found out I didn't need to be doing the "death grip" on the acoustic like I had been doing for years. And yes. I like to say playing acoustic is like playing naked. Can't hide behind gain. There are some of our rock hero's that are excellent acoustic players..... and there are some that just shouldn't.
Bought my first real new guitar in 1977, a Takamine F360S. Bought its cousin, a 12 string EF400S in 1978. Now known as the Lawsuit Taks. Still have both. Fast forward 46 years and a real McCoy D-28 joined the stable early this year.

This poor thing has some issues making it basically unplayable. Probably was always that way, I just didn't know better. It needs to be handed to a good luthier and some repair done. Most likely a neck reset and that just isn't worth the cost on a $200 guitar.

A D28 would be a great acquisition. (I'm a tad envious) My youngest, with some prompting from his wife, just treated himself to a 40th birthday/Christmas present. Bought himself a really nice Taylor. If he brings it at Christmas I'll snap a couple photos and share. He did try a D28 while in the store. Where I like the Martin for bringing the bottom end.... he likes the Taylor for bringing the mids. He's using it on his worship team and the Taylor just works better for him than the Martin. He's always been partial to the Taylor guitars. Me... I'm a Martin guy. I love my Ovation. It turns 50 next summer.... but there are days I wish I'd ponied up a few more bucks and bought a Martin back in '74.
That was my story too back in 77, I couldn’t afford a Martin. I was playing with 2 other guys at the time in our living rooms. One had a 12 string Martin and the other had a 12 Ovation.
While researching Martins this year I had my eye on a 72 and a 74 D-28. What little I read, the 70s were not a good time for Martins. Some claimed that the bridge/saddles were off a little and made intonation almost impossible. I don’t know if that’s true or not but it kept me from buying an older one sight unseen (or played).
