Announcing... RiffMasters!

So , the Devil is in the details.
My question is if a video submission is required are we going to be able to edit in multi tracks ?

The reason I ask is I generally record most of my song parts on the computer. Drums in ez drummer.
Are the songs going to require singing ?
That is my Achilles heel.
Are people allowed other musicians to join in?

I will be out of town the weak of "T" day.
I believe the game will fairly quickly validate whether simple video, or more complex audio track alone will rule. Or, a combo of a video where one plays over a more produced audio track might be ideal.
I believe no matter the situation, creative audio/video approach or song choice might be as, or more important as format.
I feel all creative freedoms to the submitter ideal, but also
I propose the only case a collab to be acceptable is for outside vocals ONLY... if the submitter feels they are required... But let's all work that out before we begin, OK?

I set it up for 35 day/5 week challenges for the main 10 = approx 1 year. However, if all submissions come in early for a round... we can def. move on more quickly. I want this to be less stress, more time for submissions. Again, there is no point penalty for missing or skipping any main challenge. You just might want to skip a challenge to make yourself eligible for a duel!

Once each main challenge drops, the guitar duel challenger for that round (clockwork is round 1) has 1 week to name who he will be duelling for the mini game, other rounds it will be more obvious (2 lowest in points ). Combatants will have ten days to provide a duel submission to then be voted on by the community.

What say everyone regarding vocals?

If I could find the right voice I am looking for I will try to sing. I might have to find a voice manipulation device. Not for any reason other than to not hurt someone's ears. Lol

I found that my mixer I have never used has mic pres and a compression knob.
So between that and the DAW plugins hopefully it will work.

Like so many people , lyrics are hard.
I have ideas , however they are not on paper.

I can see Black Friday ahead of me ! The first song that I recognize when I typed in on youtube. Good times , come on !

There is only one way to be objective.. blind audio tests, otherwise, john q public always has their cheerleaders & popularity fav's .

How do ya judge art? The internet tends to reward speed vs soul ect ect
Yeah, social politics will likely come into play…this group seems pretty sharp though, reflecting upon the majority of the previous Game of Toanz competition…quality submissions (meaning: submissions that clearly show that some honest effort was put in by the contestant, regardless of perceived “skill” level) will speak for themselves, and often to the crew of voters around here.

Yeah , wasn't meaning any negativity. It is pretty good here. Def will be watching & enjoying everybody playing. Maybe my fav part of forums has been the actual music behind the people. I like it all if its original cause i know it comes from within

I want us to give an honest try, but the overall goal (for me, anyway) was simply to regiment myself to some creative output, and I was hoping others might feel they might need the same so we can share the experience.

The whole "contest" part of it should not be taken too seriously (please!) It's simply to provide a little extra motivation and structure to it all, and keep it flowing in a sustained manner.

Nobody is going to win a Vegas Residency out of this or cause Simon Cowell to award you a Golden Ticket or standing ovation. Well, maybe!

As far as originals, some challenges give opportunity for fresh, but not everyone is a songwriter so many tasks ask you to twist and bend your choice of existing material into a contrasting style or genre to form a brand new alternate cover.
There will be plenty room for creativity. I will add this is really not something I've ever tried before in my own musical journey, so don't feel I've set it up for my advantage. I've tried to build it as a crowd pleaser: fun, entertaining challenges that I hope will inspire us all to stretch ourselves creatively.

Let's have one more victim in, and get the party started!

And I definitely don't think "gear" is going to make much of a difference.

Let me tell you a little about The first challenge called "Opening Act."

It'll test what few memory cells you may still possess, and possibly cause a wave of near-orgasmic nostalgia to flood your synapses.

Memories of yourself, sitting there alone on your teenage bed, hands kept busy at your second-most favorite activity, No! Not that!! :notworthy: Playing guitar! Shame on you!

What songs drove YOU to begin to learn the guitar? Your achin' fingers forced to bend and strain in foreign ways, tips red 'n swole. Your cracky voice plaintively trying to croak out words in time with the strumming?

Or maybe you were more into the showboat stuff, instead?

We gonna find out soon, I think! Come on number 12!

Jump in and join the party!

I concur!!!

I have no traction on the Marshall Forum so if anyone knows anyone fun over there, please put it out there discretely, best via PMs. Let's give it one more day. Eleven or 12 will still be interesting, if we can also have extras dropping by casually to keep things stirred up.

I don't expect anyone will be able to actually *win* without dueling at least once, but it's possible.

But really? All of TTR wins, here with loads of fun, fresh content.

So as it stands...
1. Only outside vocals allowed as collabs.
2. Players' choice of format: audio only, or audio/video. 3. Minimum music clip length 1:00.
4. Five week deadlines for each of 10 main challenges
5. Vocals absolutely NOT required.
6. No Penalty for opting out of any main challenge.
7. But watch those guitar duels! You do NOT want to chicken out as challenger (lowest score) or as the one challenged. Expect to pay!
8. Points will be awarded for all honest submissions.

In the event of a tied vote, earliest submission rules the day (Except one special case I will explain later).

Any other questions?
