Lmao had to happen on a holiday weekend: Strep!

So I got something I haven't had in over 25 years: Streptococcus A aka Strep Throat. I just thought it was allergies because pollen this year has been absolutely merciless. But then again, I don't really get seasonal allergies, so I knew something was off. But Thursday my throat got incredibly sore at work, legs began aching and I just felt bad in general. Came home, took a nice warm bath and loaded up a cocktail of Excedrin, Nasal decongestant, allergy pill and some Halls lol. It only continued to feel worse the next day as I was outside staining my kids' swing set.

Woke up this morning at like 5am and couldn't swallow. Made a hot cup of tea with honey and lemon and didn't help, tried a popsicle and didn't work either. So I scheduled an appointment at Med Express and within 5 mins was told I got Strep A. Used to keep that crap when I was younger but it always came with a nasty fever, burning eyes, usually vomiting and blisters on my throat. I didn't have any of that this time just a super sore throat so I figured " Eh, must be the pollen!".

Anywho, got some antibiotics and they gave me this crazy gargle solution that's 2% lidocaine and looks like clear sludge. I tried gargling this $hit? And just choked because it's thick as Molasses lol but hey, my throat is numb now but so is my tongue, lips, gums etc and I just drooled like a goon for about 20 mins lmao

Good news is supposedly not contagious after 24 hrs of begining antibiotics, so I guess the entire Memorial Day weekend isn't a TOTAL loss!

Damn man!!
That sucks.
At least it’s only strep and it will go away. There will be other weekends to enjoy.
Oh yeah! Honestly in the great pantheon of crap to get, this is one of the easier ones really. Think I'd rather have it than a common cold half the time, cause at least some amoxicillin can clear you right up in a snap instead of days of snotting, sneezing and coughing lol

Sorry this is your weekend. Stinks for sure. But ya got drugs and should start feeling better soon.

Not sorry. Laughed out loud at drooling. Been there done that after root canal once. Dentist shot me so full of novocain on that side of my jaw I couldn’t feel the top of my head for three hours.

Lol yeah that damn Novocaine wrecks you. Anytime I had it used on me, my mouth basically just goes paralyzed. This was kinda the same effect!

Get well soon Mike
At least you got the things to ease the pain.

We had a slight mishap on the job today. nothing like what you have to experience, but a mishap all the same.
We have a temporary water spigot at the front of the building, the hose got caught in a lumber strap,, and pulled it apart. We had no tool to cut the supply off, or a means of stopping it at the source,, so we dug up the connection at the street.
And got the fire department to shut it off.
It was running for about 45 minutes lol.

Finally got it off so we took lunch
All in a days work..
Nobody we called answered the phone, or text messages.
Ahh the holiday weekend..

Cheers

Dude that absolutely sucks lol i am so sorry

It’s all water under the bridge now lol. But it was a pain in the ass at first.
Last week, road workers were fixing a drain line on the next street over, but forgot to check with Miss Utility first and smacked the water main. Then when they went to shut the valve off, it broke in the open position, dumping thousands of gallons into the street lol so we were without water from 1pm to 11pm and then were on a boiled water advisory for the next few days.

I was working in the hills of Rowland Heights years ago.
And a backhoe operator, snagged a gas line, we had to take a couple of hours off for them to clear us to go back to work.

So I took the opportunity to have a smoke .. lol

Hope you walked a couple blocks away before lighting up.
Actually. Not a laughing matter. 20-25 years ago a crew was working in Iowa around a major gas pipeline…. That I believe hadn’t been properly marked. Backhoe operator hit the line. The resulting boom and fireball was so hot I’m not sure they were able to recover remains of the operator or the two guys in the pickup truck a couple hundred feet from the fireball.

That's absolutely awful. Only thing that matters when you get on any job, anytime is one thing: everyone getting home at the end of the day in one piece. Nothing out here, no matter the money nor the stakes is worth losing anyone for. Doesn't matter if a job is way behind schedule, people screaming for it to be finished or inversely; pushing a job way ahead of schedule and clearing a major profit: it's all a massive failure on all of our sides if someone is severely injured or worse

That is terrible.
Back in 01 we were working in Northridge, and a crawler operator skimmed a major power line, he calmly got off of the dozer and went to find the superintendent, the white flash caught the dirt on fire.
And it killed power to the entire center and the traffic signals on the corner of the streets..
His helper was going to go and take a peek at what got unearthed. But changed his mind when the flash came back for the second time.

Mike I hope it clears soon.
Memorial day weekend.
US Festival in San Bernadino. One of the great experiences of my life.

It was actually longer ago than I remembered. It was 1982. Story if interested. Sad for sure. And most likely. Avoidable.
