Looks like some people cant take a joke..:

1974 AMC Matador Coupe X ( aka Rambler) wasn't a terrible car really. Like most things the year before, the gas crisis began murdering the Detroit muscle and the engines were the first to suffer. The 360 4barrel Gen 3 Tall-Deck that year produced about 190hp off the line, so a big drop from what they spat out just 3 years earlier which was 295hp. But, considering that even the beloved Pontiac Firebird that same year only could get a listed 290hp with an actual Dyno reading of 253hp from the largest option the SD-455, suddenly 190hp doesn't seem so anemic by comparison. The Camaro Z28 only had 245hp as well.

Even Mopar suffered the same cruel fate that year with the Challenger pushing a maximum 245hp in the 360 Ralleye option. The most you would find was the Dodge Road Runner 440 that could get 275hp

Ford got it the worst with the debut of the Mustang 2, having a 161ci V6 producing a WHOPPING 105hp. The Thunderbird had the massive 460 but, it was neutered to a sad 212hp
One has to remember in that same time frame, Detroit changed their way of stating HP. In the past it had been engine on the dyno with no power robbing accessories on said engine. Then they started rating them with accessories. Power steering. Water pumps. Etc. Basically rear wheel HP rather that flywheel HP. They did cut compression which obviously cost some power. What we all forget is…. A 290hp small block from one year to the next became a 220hp small block. Same heads. Same cam. Same carb. An example would be the L48 in my 77 Vette. 185 screaming Hp. If memory serves, before the rating change the equivalent engine was a 250hp.

Well, looks like some people cant take a joke and they got their feelings hurt…

I cant be part of anything that cant take a jokes…. I thought we could have little fun bashing teles but some people got emotional and got their feelings hurt..

Therefore, im out of here for good now….

Nice to know ya all!!!!!

Good luck in future!

Ramo
I missed it. However that MF forum has that same effect on me.
The problem is human nature protects their own interest. I don't think anyone would try to offend you just trying to defend their favorite gear. It doesn't matter what we play gear wise. It's what you do with it.

When we post , sometimes it's hard to tell if anyone is actually joking.
Don't take it heart. Just hang.
Let the water find its level.
Besides. Pain = fuel for metal !

Very true! Plus a lot of times, especially in the 60s and early 70s, there was a lot of lying going on from Detroit in terms of actual horsepower. They would often intentionally derate the true values and make them seem weaker to defeat insurance companies that were either going to rake you across the coals or flat out deny you coverage.

One of the most infamous examples as Ford issuing out the 1968 GT-500KR and claiming it was 355Hp when in reality, it was well beyond the 400Hp mark. Insurance companies kind of set a limit to under 400hp for production cars before they designated them as race vehicles, so then nearly every Detroit company began lying their asses off about what they really had lol

But another factor was when the cars switched out from leaded to unleaded which immediately began devaluing horsepower for real. Leaded gas had much more compression and overnight, that was lost on every car. Some cases showed as much as a 50Hp reduction from leaded to unleaded in some vehicles, which would've been extremely frustrating to those that had just bought a car with high horsepower. The fuel additives like octane boost or lead substitute, supposedly helped get them back over the slump

The 67-68-69 Corvette L88 engine fell in that camp. GM marketed them as 430 HP when they were actually around 560 HP.

I had 2 1979 4x4’s Bronco and a F250 both had the same engine
The 400 m I think they called them, and they were both gutless, with 354 gear ratios, and 36” tall tires.

But they sure were fun to own.

I had a 79 f250 with the 400.... The most detuned motor Ford ever put out, it you build them, they can really rip.... they unbuilt them during the gas crunch years.... They truly were gutless... Almost as bad as having a Chevy!

Hey now.

You had your tonsils out. You get a bye on this one...... but after this.... no trashing Chevy's. :pound-hand:

I've ever ran anything but a 4.10 or 4.30 gear in anything.

My 1972 Ford Torino 429 SCJ (our pro build) would still just nick 140mph with a 4.30 gear and 27.0" tires, just a shade under 7,500 rpm.

1/4 mile was 13.80 @ 108mph

My 2006 Mustang also has 4.30's but it has an overdrive in 5th.

Bummer Ramo we hate to see ya go.

That might leave myself as the only tele hating metal head here ha ha ha.

Good luck to you in your future brother, I hope to still see you around of you ever wanna poke your head back in.
No no, you aren’t the only one. I’m just more laid back about it than Ramo as I know a lot of people really like them as much as I like V’s and Strats.

and on top of that, I’ve given tele’s multiple tries, both with single coils and humbuckers… they just don’t jive with me.

Im not even sure what happened there though either, I thought we were all having fun and as far as I know, just about everyone here has found his utter disdain for teles hilarious. Maybe more going on behind the scenes?

So. Some years ago had a friend tell me I’d look good playing a Tele. Said, not interested. Today I have a Tele style guitar. Another told me I should be playing a semi-hollow. Jazz box so to speak. Again. Not interested. Today I have a Hagstrom Viking. Personally, I had zero interest in owning a Strat. I now have one. Love it. Only electric I have that no one told me to get is the G400. That one’s all on me. I play all of them. Enjoy playing all of them.

Nice thing is. Like music genres…. There’s a guitar out there that gonna suit a persons style and needs. It’s not a one size fits all. Doesn’t stop us from giving each other grief in jest…. As long as it all stays tongue in cheek and friendly.

There’s a fine line between brand bashing in fun and insulting to the person that owns said brand. And that line is in a different place for different people.
Not directed at you sir..just a prompted response..I cant even begin to explain owning a public business in 3 'entitled" cities how much things have changed in last 3 years. I have to stay off internet basically except for car stuff..way way too aggressive & refuse to let anybody move me or sway..its life or death in the joking area out in public like we are every minute we awake working..maybe some of you are in cushy lil lives but on the street every day ..a lil joke or misunderstanding can be your life. Was always such a people person--non proffit stuff ect..now at war until retirement... when the social justice-entitlement is accepted over LAW.. it sucks.. they :: the new defund po po norm wont back us up when they wont pay,,, so i work for free..nah....joking is a fine line now & sometimes its just best to shut up or lets go.. btw i hate tele's..ice pick to the head
