The Ocean:

I am partial to Ritchie Blackmore's Strat tones. But yes, I do like Jimmy n In the Evening.

Of course I also like Lifeson, Adrian Smith's Strat style tones, Dave Murray, and GlennTipton's. But like Smith and Tipton, the likes of KK Downing also played Gib V's, LP's, ES and SG type too.
All great tone players. One of the common denominators back in the 70's was wah and Marshall .
Lifeson, Kk, Schenker (my favorite tone)

I guess that KK and Glenn would try to use opposing single coil to humbucker guitars. Dave and Adran also They both used both types.
KK loved to go crazy on the strat dive bombs on Sinner.

Some other LP players I quite enjoy are Derek St Holmes,. Buck Dharma, and Dean DeLeo.

Gball may or may not like DeLeo, but I am sure he'd like Dean's Wine Red Lester's.

Of course we shouldn't forget Zakk Wylde, Vinnie Moore and even Randy Rhoades tones. All different than Page, but I enjoy them all.
I will surely come up with others.

Not always,

Pete Townshend and Gilmour and others used Hiwatts, EV, Fane, etc loaded speaker cabs, not just Marshalls.
Nugent had times he used Fender amps and cabs, Iommi had his Laney's. Some other guys liked their Rolands and of course Bass players had Ampegs, Sunn, and Eventually the likes of Mesa for bass and guitar players such as Carlos Santana.

Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe played HI Watt and Carlsbro. Not a Les Paul a ES345.

No, I am actually a big fan of Stone Temple Pilots and have always really liked his tone.

Can't stand Blue Oyster Cult though, haha.

Anywhat, I mean, if we're being honest about Les Paul tone, then we gotta be talking about Ace. And some of my favorite recorded guitar tone of all time is Lerxst on ATWAS.

Well, Mr Gball,

You know I have seen all 3 of these guitar players even the one you do not like.

Lerxst, DeLeo, and Buck. Never saw Ace, but I was going to mention him, especially my favorite songs of theirs.

Someone mentioned Peter Green, Hey, who is that other LP player here? Danny Kirwan I surmise. Is he playing a Gold Top with P90's? Also, Green Manilishi was my Intro to Judas Priest. Imagine my surprise when I found out in the 2000's that Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac played it first.

Sorry to hijack the OCEAN topic, Robert. But I am sure you figured out we are also digressing into the various players and tones milked from Les Paul Std, Gold Tops, Jr's, Customs etc.

Just check out Derek St Holmes on his LP Jr I think it it.
