I wasn’t sure just where to put this, but I felt I had to share… @smitty_p especially.
So a good friend emailed me, asking for setup help for live monitoring a new amp modeling plugin, last night.
This is the youtube video he sent me…

This is a link to the plug-in page.

NAM - Neural Amp Modeler Plug-in…..It’s open-source, and free. It works with many DAW hosts. It’s available for Windoze, and MAC currently….BUT the big thing I noticed was the line on the site that said, “Could also support………….iOS soon”. That would be very cool with me…because I went to this model sharing page, and downloaded a few models…

I loaded it up, and selected a SLO100 model to fire up. I didn’t have any IR files on the drive that was handy, so I went without, and just strapped a reverb across the bus(you could chain any plug-ins your processor can handle at your lower buffer settings…eq, compression, etc). I was blown away by the touch sensitivity that was so much better than anything I’ve ever experienced in a sim…including my Kemper! I had set up some healthy gain, and thought better of it….I reflexively rolled my guitar volume back to about 7…it actually cleaned up a little. The Kemper doesn’t do that until I roll back to around 4-5. But my real amps do behave like that! So I rolled back to 4-5, and wouldn’t you know it!?!? Almost clean!
Just a quick trial to help a friend out with buffer settings and stuff…and I AM DIGGING IT! I have to dig out my drive with my old IR files on it, and dig a bit deeper! If I can load this up on my phone!…or an iPad!….it could be very cool indeed! Super portable! On my laptop, I was able to set the buffer down to 64 samples(like 4.6ms delay) for some low latency jam time…first impression?….Promising!

Looks cool! Does it have much for effects, or is it mostly just an amp and cabinet modeler?

Also, can it be run in stand-alone mode? I do that with the sims I have on my iPad.

Super simple VST3 plug-in. You will need a host program….like Reaper, Cubase, etc…anything that will load VST plugins. It has no effects. Just one mono IR host slot, for speaker cabinet IR files. Not a stand alone app….yet….key word “yet”. If/when it gets ported over to iOS, that may or may not change…it may become an AU plug-in for iOS…you could load it into a host app there, like DAW Multitrack etc…

I will follow up. I just added a couple ezx packs to ez drummer.
I have a cab sim from that guy doing the video. It's OK. He has a lot but he does have a finger on the pulse of digital.

I have a bunch of his Kemper profiles…he’s kinda difficult to ignore. Most of my IR files are super old…like 2008-10. Still have to dig them out. Perhaps this weekend…

Interesting. I'll need to keep my eye on this. My ideal would be a stand-alone program for iOS, that also has good effects. I'd also need it to be controllable via MIDI. So, far Bias FX2 meets those needs.

But, the virtue of using a rig like my iPad is that I can change platforms without needing any gear...just software. It really opens up possibilities.

Since it is “open source” code, it can be used (packaged) by other parties as a component in other commercial apps. My first impression of this plug-in was extremely positive. It appears that I’m not alone. It actually seems to have a genuine “real amp feel” to it. That said, there are others currently at work on “neural amp modeling” tech. Just keeping an eye, and mind, open.

Love open source. I used to use Linux. Several versions. I like to change them up.
I had several versions running so I could run any one I wanted at boot up.

Anyway, plugin alliance has some amps. I grabbed a friedman BE. It's not bad but I think I have some settings that need to be adjust. It kind of drifts off instead of holding sustain.

You're gonna wanna not use that ib, because you don't need it.
