I had my hands on a used double cut about a month ago (humbuckers)
They were asking $1200
I wanted it but decided not.

I've owned a few DCs over the years and have a kind of love/hate thing with them. I really liked the two DC Standards that I had, they were really comfortable and fast-playing, but they definitely did not sound like a regular Les Paul Standard and I couldn't get past it, especially the neck pickup placement. Had a DC Special for a while and it was cool too, with really nice P-90 tone, but again I think I just prefer single cuts overall. Then I also had a Spirit DC/single pickup for a minute - sounded great but was unplayable to me because the neck was far, far too thin.

Thing that got me hooked on Grolsch washers was almost losing a Les Paul to a failed Dunlop straplock. I vowed to never use straplocks again and have never had the slightest issue with the washers gigging or otherwise...

I got my first set of Dunlop Straplocks for my birthday in 1988. They were on my Stratocaster for 30 years....and were still working flawlessly when it went to @Sp8ctre in 2019.

Here's how mine failed:



The retaining spring for the pusher/balls went tits up, so they just no longer engaged the groove in the strap button part: '77 Les Paul Custom flying through the air and I will never understand how I managed to catch it before it hit the stage. They were only about 2 years old at the time, but I was also gigging 4 or 5 days a week then so put a lot of mileage on them in a short period.

This happened around 1984/85 and will never again.

Man, I've seen it at least a dozen times over the years. Schallers will fail too if you give them a chance.

I've always used Schaller strap locks. Never had an issue with them.

I dont doubt you. Just never saw it, even as a road tech on touring guitars.

My lowly SG Faded Walnut, is a PLAYER for sure. It is so comfortable and MEAN looking.
Of all my guitars, I really like the neck on the SG Faded special's neck the best.

Not listed is the Classic - Mine is about 9.5

These are the strap locks I use.

I never used to use strap locks. I used to use oversize strap buttons.

However, my White Falcon actually came with a gold set of the Grover strap locks. I liked them so much that I bought more and put them on most of my other guitars.

Several of my Standards (and two of the Customs) are under 9 lbs.
My favorite Standard is 8.33 lbs and I have an R8 that's only 8.13.

I once had the balls stick and fail to engage, but never had the spring actually break.
My tech back in the 80s told me a drop of oil once in a while keeps them working fine.
I have several sets from back then still on guitars. Never had a problem with them.

I don't put straplocks (either Dunlop or Schaller) on guitars anymore.
Simpler to use the D'Addario clips; they don't require attaching anything to the straps.
