Project 66

cool, whats your plan for the re build?
Hopefully between work schedule next few days can get what it is figured out. The vin tag has been verified by the Galaxie group & its a 1966 Ford Gallaxie xl 500, 390, 2v, c6, 3.00/1 rear gear, raven black with maroon interior.

banged on the frame everywhere & will have to patch 3 spots. Luckily not much. Being boxed can put a piece right in if i bevel the edges to lay weld in. has only single master manual drums..crazy huh for a 2 ton missile lol. Probably convert front to disc & maybe power, doesnt have to be though maybe go to double master.

Right now deciphering block & heads serial #'s. Going to have to measure bore & stoke to actually figure out what it is at this point. Had it running just to see. Got aluminum radiator & tranny cooler. The radiator leaked so only had it on enough to set timing & adjust carb. Sat for 10 years & the unique smell of gas turning into shellac is ever present. But it did run when i got new gas to it. No strange noises, actually sounded strong. We shall see, if the crank & pistons/rods are OK going to rebuild it way it is & then next year will figure out if i need more power(Yes always) have 2 460's looking for light car to drop in & could conceiveably make this my daily & restore as we go.

Well well, my luck day... 1964 block C4AE 1964 heads C4AE 6090g, 1964 crank C4AE..ya know what that means? Look at the block mains, it has the cross webbing for the side main bearing caps..this is a 427 390 block, 427 crank. More than likely the PI(Police interceptor beefed up version of 390) Whats it really really mean. Next winter this will be a built to the hilt 427, 500 hp 525 Torque/// Woo Hoo lol 390 bottom o.jpg390 head serial o.jpg390 crank serial o.jpg390 block serial o.jpg

I can't wait to see all those goodies bolted on!
Are you going to heat wrap the headers?
Those are Sanderson shorties will prob run then coat better next winter. My car will never see rain & has an indoor spot. New plans are to put engine in & run it till next winter & drive while i work on it. Welding the 3 frame spots this week & figure the brakes out & away we go as the body & interior get worked on, Next year will pull pull engine again or if its rat rod still maybe leave it. Have 2 460's looking for light something. Common sense tells me to find a car with easy drop in like 67 to 73 stang.

Looks new to me buddy.
Leed dual master kit with proportioning valve. It had single bowl master. The difference in pedal grab is amazing. 4 wheel drum brake change this weekend. woo hoo lol.

Springs-shocks & 3 spots on frame to weld & then dropping engine in. About 2 weeks hopefully. March is busiest locksmith month of the year for some reason & we work non stop till school is out. Contemplating taking Tuesdays off at noon over summer & ride the bike. 58 & just can't miss that stuff as we get older. Self employment always has you on the fringe of madness in general & its hard to not work.

Me and my buddy Buzz did the same thing to a VW dune buggy up in the mountains. when a rock sheared the brake line, we didn’t do much more exploring after that .. but we did make it home.

Thanks

Careful who you let drive!
Watching some 1966 Ford commercial for the Galaxie, they targeted the 4 door towards women & comfort & then i saw one for its screaming down dirt roads. Its first year of coils in rear, It does glide for sure. But 4 ladies going 75 after a few lunch drinks with a single cylinder master..yikes..2 ton missle !
