I'm actually quite torn on this.
I'd keep the top hats on most of the time, and whip out the reflectors for fancy dress occasions. But that's just me.
 
I had to add some nuts (or just a washer for one) on the bottoms of the pots so that the high hats didn't stick up so high. Thinking swapping them on and off might be more trouble that it is worth.

I am also torn though. I think I like the actual look of the top hats better as the reflectors make it seem like too much silver on the face of the guitar when viewed dead on, but the reflectors are quintessentially 60's. Plus they give Greg Koch a woody so that must count for something. Wonder if gold reflectors would look good yet toned down a bit. :hmmm:

Do the reflectors have a gold insert of silver?
I have seen gold ones before, but those look silver in the pic.

I think gold insert reflectors would be the cats ass.
That said, I prefer the all gold tophats over those reflectors.

Now you need 4 of those nifty little finger slicing pointers.

These are silver topped reflectors and I left the pointers in with the top hats but you can't see them because they are pointing in the opposite direction.

EDIT: you can kinda see them.
 
I like the reflectors for the reason you mentioned, and that's what I chose. That being said, that thing looks great with the tophats, but just to make things more complicated I think amber tophats would look the best of all.

OK. that clears things up.
Iffin' you can find a set of gold insert reflectors, I'll change my vote.
But as it sits, the top hats just look like they belong there.

Ah yes, I see em in the first pic.

It's actually a red. It was a color called Black Cherry that I think was a Guitar Center exclusive in the mid 2000s. The above is a 2005 Standard Plus. Few mods, I put in some gold capped EMGs, swapped out the Nashville bridge for a TonePros locking ABR-1 and locking TonePros tailpiece. Other than that it is stock. It came with a twist in the neck but I slanted the bridge and it actually is one of my best playing guitars now.

I ~think~ I like the top hats better...but it's such a close decision.

But, it's a killer-looking Les Paul...either will work!

I voted Top Hats, but you could show up on a stage with that Lester with either set of knobs, crank some tunes, and I'd throw my fist in the air and scream, either way!
 
I like top hats on LP's, no particular reason but as Smitty said, they both look good. Change em as the mood takes you. Cheers
