Ray, my reply about the table saw not all the way thru,,,,,,,,,,,, is because then it would cut your piece of wood less wide.

MY reason for partial depth is the same as your router depth so you get a nice dado channel with even depth and straight sides.

1. Why are there so many mounting holes


2. Why is there excess cone material covering part of these holes?

Because it needs to fit tight and secure as possible

I saw a video of a Celestian greenback install. It only had 4 holes

4 is plenty i would think.Most speakers ive come across has some of the cone material in the mounting holes.
