So Anyway...

Serious question...

I notice your string spacing is off in the photo, as are the barrels. I'm assuming this is just a 'mock up' shot for the camera.

I tend to use a nut file and create a notch in the barrels to positively locate the strings position, which also serves to keep the barrels in place laterally as well.
Yes, you are correct. It is not a mock-up, but pre-setup. The barrels are as they were out of the box and were significantly cocked to one side. Also, the nut was not adjusted at all, or even centered. That was last night's project. At the time of this pic, it was not playable. After a few hours of setup time last night, it is a pleasure to play!

I have not notched the barrels. That is a good idea

Not meant in any way as a negative vibe, just my QC inspector coming out.

Great work as always!!

I like to start my notches with a file.. very faint, then finish them with welding tip cleaners...about .002"/.004" above string gauge.

I then polish the grooves with abrasive gauged cord.

I do use the abrasive cord . It is very helpful. Binding is not much of an issue for me since I don't use (or build in) a trem

So anyway, three years ago, there was a major life changing event that took place. I won't go into the details now, but some close friends here know what I'm talking about. In 5 more days I will know if this event has come to fruition. If not it will be 3 more months before I know anything. I'm looking forward to closing this chapter of my life.
OK, big update today! I still can't go into details, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train.
