Back in 2020, I came up with this riff and I took it to the band. They rejected it, saying it sounded too much like AC/DC. (Why not!)

A while back, I took that riff and kinda converted it into a song structure (more or less) and came up with the hook, "Rock N Roll Tonight."

Recently, the drummer and I decided to record the basic tracks, and we came up with a drum and bass arrangement.

I sang/made up the lyrics as we went along and used a scratch version to file for copyright protection.

Last night, we decided to record the vocals just for fun, and they turned out so good, we decided to leep them.

Here's last night's vocals over the scratch copyright recording.

Fully copywritten lyrics and arrangements (©️ ℗) and registered with BMI.

Super catchy! I like it, its got elements of that AC/DC sound, but I don't see how that's grounds for rejection. It's a great Rock n Roll sound.

Nice work Rob.

Nice work Rob.

It also passed the copyright system's soundex examination so its not overtly similar to any existing material.

Thanks for the positive vibes!!!

I wrote this song in a single take from just the main riff. The structure isn't even "textbook" and it doesn't really follow a conventional format.

I made the vocals up in one take, drawing from my work as a hired writer for band projects, commercial jingles, etc., and the vocals are effortless for me to sing.

We used two Peavey PVM-328'S ran left and right independently, which give that latent "stagger" to the vocals.

The vocals are completely unedited and appear as recorded.

I mean, you know it's not AC/DC, but it certainly is a foot tapper and the unique vocals are way more interesting than a "ordinary" vocalist.

Ok, so as we move along here, we've been discussing ideas during the songwriting process.

We definitely want to add 2 AC/DC covers to our album. We haven't decided on which ones just yet as we are still working on our original material at present.

However, I also suggested that we do a more modern cover that would compliment both my range and vocal timbre.

I get really deep into these things...I like everything to have an underlying purpose and meaning.

While we have an AC/DC vibe, it's clear that we are not an AC/DC cover band. I enjoy adding the Bon Scott-esque inflections because I think it makes the song more interesting and it's effortless for me.

My thoughts, with respect to a more modern cover, was Airbourne's "Back In The Game."

As Angus has said, Back In Black was a tribute to Bon Scott. My thoughts with "Back In The Game" (when listening to the lyrics) was - if I can do it well enough - it could almost be like a Bon Scott tribute to himself.

Look at the lyrics...

Let's play
It's been a hard road but I'm almost home
As the lights fade to black
Hear the roar of the crowd
Ten thousand loud
It's good to be back
Feel the sting the sweat
On the back of my neck
It's been way too long
Like a ricochet I hit the stage
Lets get it on
I'm back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Oh yeah
I'm built to last I'll never crash
I'm invincible tonight
Feel the energy running over me
Like a bolt from the sky
Go another round in another town
I strike and then I'm gone
I'm a high octane hurricane
Let's get it on
I'm back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Oh yeah
I'm back in the game
Back in the game
Breaking hearts again
You better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
I'm back in the game
Kickin' ass again
No stopping me now
It's like I've never been away
So you better watch out
'Cause I'm back in the game
Back in the game
Back in the game
Watch out I'm gonna get 'cha
Back in the game
I'm playing to win I'm playing with sin
Back in the game
Don't count me out 'cause I'll knock you out
I'm back in the game

What are your thoughts on this???
