A Student Told Me He Wanted To Quit:

After some of the recent emails and PM's I've received, before this thread was written, I'm taking a look at things from a different perspective.

I've decided to share a PM publicly that I sent to @RVA.

Again, if you say "_____ suck" then what are you basing that opinion on?

Even if you have 330 concert dates undet your belt, you can't justify that statement and nothing constructive can be taken from it.

Colonel Mustardr read my post (the same post that offended some) an "got it" in exactly the spirit in which I intended. (That tells me that perspective is the variable here.)

But all things happen for a reason.

You probably didnt read my post titled "things I didn't realize until tonight. "

You should.

As TTR has grown it has become more and more like other forums.

I've been spending far too much time writing and reading TRR posts and I believe it took these recent exchanges for me to realize this fact.

Aside from my recent posts about helping @ninjaking67 with his setup questions, I truly believe that the most "meaningless opinions" are my own.

I been hitting TTR every morning, posting something I thought might be interesting.

I recently posted an original song (bad dog) that I've been writing and I get one response.

I share a dissenting opinion and I get 60+ replies.

There's a message in that, one that I have failed to receive.

I thank you for making me see this. I've been blind to it

I'm gonna step back. Play more. Post less.

May blessings and prosperity find you.

I'll respond to PM's regarding any setup questions or discussions, but I intend to greatly reduce my TTR time and devote that extra time to playing more and trying to complete original work for my yet unfinished CD. I believe this to be in the best interests of all.

May all your hopes and dreams come true...

I challenged you on one post. Otherwise, I have always been supportive of everything you do. Most people here are supportive of all members. Disagreement happens, on forums and in person.

I am sorry if I offended you beyond the point I was making. I am sorry I missed your original work, which I would check out now, but I fear that you will think I am patronizing you. I hope to see you soon, because I consider you a friend.

He was also blind. Incredible player with a Squire. Saw him a few times.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff and his band at a venue in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. They were absolutely hilarious to hang out with. Jeff had amazing wit, and an funny sense of humor. It is one night I will forever cherish. It was one of those „right place, at the right time moments.“

As for the original post, I always try to be positive with my posting. Especially with new players. My starter gear in ‘77-‘78 was looked down at back then, but worshipped now. My first electric was a Japanese Epiphone Crestwood, and my first amp was a ‘65 Ampeg Gemini II (which I still have). After learning to play some, I found a ‘68 SG Junior. It was what I could afford, and used it in my first couple of bands. I got flak for it, but learned how to make them sound good for what we were playing. With greater progress of my ability and my paycheck, I eventually upgraded my gear as time went along.

People these days are too quick to pass off stuff before learning what it really does. It’s part of the whole “disposable” mentality people have these days. All of my old amps and guitars I know like the back of my hand. I’d never let go of them, just like certain tools I’ve used for work for the past forty years.

As for slagging people off on their choices, I try to follow the golden rule. “Nothing good to say, then STFU.” But also, after so many years in manufacturing I will not endorse Chinese products, Walmart, or Amazon. For the same reason some have said they won’t watch the Olympics, I won’t give my money to companies who will use child and slave labor in totalitarian countries like China to reap bigger profits.

Guys. Enough!!! 113 posts and six pages and we’re still killing the same horse. Nothing new has been said since page 2…. And I’m being generous. Please cease.

Thanks.
Only six pages! :pound-hand:

This thread has "Necropost Nirvana" written all over it. We won't see this go away, even after thirty pages and three-four years.

Sorry I broke my rule, but I can't resist. The Force was too strong.
