Hernia Surgery

I've had this umbilical hernia for about 5 years now and it's getting to where it's bothering me so I'm having surgery this coming Thursday to fix it. Anybody ever been thru this? I'm a little nervous about the surgery, but I'm more worried about the recovery because I can't take pain medicine.

Sorry to hear that brother. Both the hernia and can't take pain meds. My old boss had it done and he said Ibuprofen worked just fine. He couldn't take meds either.

Yep... Been there done that.

The three holes were for the camera, and the snippy tools.
My belly button was a golfball sized outie and growing till the surgery .

They packed my belly button & covered it with tape to shore up things while it healed.

Lots of bruising afterward, but it all passed in a week or so.

Do it, don't suffer or take a chance on further damage.
Painwise they knock you out for the procedure. And the recovery was smooth, just ugly.

Pain medication smoke weed, it works very well.

Been there done two Hernia surgeries.Sorry ive no pics.But one embilcal surgery and laposcopic i think its called.Sorry but the surgery round my navel hurt like hell.only gave me 20 percosets.the other one didnt hurt so bad.Ur still layed up no way around it.Good luck with this.

Yep... Been there done that.

Painwise they knock you out for the procedure. And the recovery was smooth, just ugly.

I don't know if I've ever tried percoset, maybe it could be different, but pain meds I've taken in the past seem to amplify the pain. I have the opposite reaction to a lot of med.s, that's why I can't take antidepressants as well.

They do put you out for the surgery for sure.I just ate tylonal after the percoset was gone.

Been there before, I had a heart cath a few years ago and they shaved me down there in case they had to go in at my groin and they did have to after he couldn't get past my shoulder going in thru my wrist.

Yeah, the cough is going to be an issue. I have constant congestion in my throat and I have to cough to loosen it, been that way all my life. I'm worried about sneezing too, I probably sneeze to or 3 times a day due to dust allergies. I'm really worried about those things.

Oh, and I can't take allergy meds either. Mucinex is all I can take and it doesn't do much.

Did you guys have the mesh? My surgeon said he's going to cut a little smiley face and go in to fix it and install mesh.

Difficult poops may be a little rough as well.
Eat a lot of ruffage.

Yeah, My innerds had slipped through a rupture in my belly muscles.
They used the mesh to repair the tear.
I asked about all these mesh recalls, and my surgeon assured me that they used a safe & approved product.

Good luck on the surgery. Most likely there may be some discomfort for a couple days. It’ll be worth in the long term to be rid of pain you’ve been suffering for quite awhile.

They used the mesh to repair the tear.
I asked about all these mesh recalls, and my surgeon assured me that they used a safe & approved product.

My surgeon is supposed to be one of the best for this. He told me he's done hundreds of umbilical hernia surgeries and he's only had one person get an infection and it was a weird one, he didn't get the infection until 8 months after the surgery.
